Abstract

PURPOSE: To convert sludge into good soil by discarding the solidified sludge on a filter layer consisting of a lower aggregate layer and an upper sand layer formed in a discard site surrounded by walls having drain pits in their lower portions, to dehydrate the sludge.
CONSTITUTION: At the shore 2 of an ocean or river having sludge layer 1 on the bottom, a discard site 5 is formed by arranging walls 4 having drain pits 3 in their lower portions. In the site 5 is formed a filter layer 9 consisting of a lower aggregate layer 7 and an upper sand layer 8. Sludge is dredged by a dredger 10, solidified on a treatment ship 11, fed through a transfer pipe 12, and discarded on the filter layer 9 to form a sludge layer 13 there. With the solidified sludge not so flowable, only water in it flows out through the pits 3, converting the sludge into good soil. The soil can be used as basement for roads, parks, and the like.
