- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.第1の情報層及び第1の厚さの第1の透明層を有する第1の形式の記録媒体 、並びに第2の情報層及び第1の透明層とは異なる第2の厚さを有する第2の透 明層を有する第2の記録媒体を走査する光学式走査装置であって、放射ビームを 発生する放射源と、放射ビームを第1の透明層を介して第1の情報層の焦点に集 束させるように構成した対物レンズとを具える光学式走査装置において、前記放 射ビームの最良の焦点をほぼ第1の情報層上に位置決めすると共に前記放射ビー ムの近軸焦点をほぼ第2の情報層上に位置決めする手段を具えることを特徴とす る光学式走査装置。 2.請求項1に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記位置決め手段が、走査され た記録媒体から反射した放射ビームの断面の少なくとも環状外側部分の放射から 最良の焦点誤差信号を形成すると共に、前記断面の環状外側部分の内側の中央部 分の放射から近軸焦点誤差信号を形成するように作動的に配置され、この位置決 め手段が、第1の形式の記録媒体を走査する場合最良の焦点誤差信号に応じて対 物レンズを位置決めし、第2の形式の記録媒体を走査する場合近軸焦点誤差信号 に応じて対物レンズを位置決めするフォーカスサーボ系を具えることを特徴とす る光学式走査装置。 3.請求項2に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記位置決め手段が、走査れさ る記録媒体の形式を指示する形式信号を発生する形式検出器と、形式信号に応じ てフォーカスサーボ系を制御するための焦点誤差信号を選択するセレクタとを具 えることを特徴とする光学式走査装置。 4.請求項2に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記位置決め手段が、前記最良 の焦点誤差信号を形成する第1の焦点誤差検出装置と、前記近軸焦点誤差信号を 形成する第2の焦点誤差検出装置とを具えることを特徴とする光学式走査装置。 5.請求項4に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記第1及び第2の焦点誤差検 出装置が、第1及び第2の放射感知検出装置をそれぞれ具え、第2の放射感知検 出装置が第1の放射感知検出装置を中心にしたリングを形成することを特徴 とする光学式走査装置。 6.前記第1の放射感知検出器が、直交する分割線の第1の組の間に4分割され るように配置した4個のサブ検出器を具え、前記第2の放射感知検出器が、直交 する分割線の第2の組の間に4分割されるように配置した4個のサブ検出器を具 え、第1及び第2の組の分割線が相互に45°の角度をなし、さらに、前記反射 ビームの光路中に配置され、第1の非点収差パワーを有する中央区域及び第2の 非点収差パワーを有し中央区域を囲む環状区域を有する複合非点収差素子を具え 、前記中央区域の主方向が環状区域の主方向に対して45°の角度を形成するこ とを特徴とする請求項5に記載の光学式走査装置。 7.前記記録媒体で反射した放射ビームを第1及び第2の検出ビームに分割する ビーム分割素子と、第1の検出ビームの光路中に配置した第1の放射感知検出装 置と、第2の検出ビームの光路中に配置した第の放射感知検出装置とを具え、前 記第2の検出ビームが主に中央部分からの放射を含み、前記第1の検出ビームが 少なくとも外側環状部分からの放射を含む請求項2に記載の光学式走査装置。 8.前記ビーム分割素子が、反射ビームを前記放射源からの放射ビームの光路外 に出射させる別の機能を有する請求項7に記載の光学式走査装置。 9.請求項2に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記位置決め手段が、前記第2 の記録媒体からの反射ビームの放射から焦点誤差信号を形成する放射感知検出器 を有する焦点誤差検出装置を具え、この検出器の放射感知面が、第1の形式の記 録媒体を走査するとき前記反射ビームのほぼ全断面からの放射を受光して最良の 焦点誤差信号を形成し、第2の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき主として前記全断 面の中央部分からの放射を受光して近軸焦点誤差信号を形成する有効な大きさを 有することを特徴とする光学式走査装置。 10.請求項9に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記反射ビームの光路中に配 置され、零次ビーム及び回折した高次ビームを形成するビーム分割素子と、前記 零次ビームの光路中に配置され、情報層に記録されている情報を表す情報信号を 発生する検出装置とを具え、前記焦点誤差信号を形成する放射感知検出検出器が 前記回折した高次ビームの光路中に配置されていることを特徴とする光 学式走査装置。 11.請求項2に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記位置決め手段が、前記反 射ビームの光路中に配置され、第2の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき反射ビーム の断面の外側環状部分の放射を遮光する調整可能な遮光手段と、第2の形式の記 録媒体からの反射ビームの放射から焦点誤差信号を形成する放射感知検出器を有 する焦点誤差検出装置とを具え、第1の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき前記焦点 誤差信号が最良の焦点誤差信号となり、第2の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき前 記焦点誤差信号が近軸焦点誤差信号となることを特徴とする光学式走査装置。 12.請求項11に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記調整可能な遮光手段が 、反射ビームの中央部分の放射を受光する中央区域とこの中央区域を包囲する環 状区域とを有する液晶素子を具え、この液晶素子が、第1の形式の記録媒体を走 査するとき環状区域を通過する放射の偏光方向を中央区域を通過する放射の偏光 方向に対して0°回転させると共に第2の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき90° 回転させるように作動的に接続され、前記遮光手段が、前記液晶素子と焦点誤差 検出装置との間に配置した偏光子を具え、この偏光子を、液晶素子の中央区域か らの放射を焦点誤差検出装置に向けて透過させるように配置したことを特徴とす る光学式走査装置。 13.請求項11に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記調整可能な遮光手段が 、前記反射ビームの断面の中央部分の放射を受光する中央区域と及びこの中央区 域を包囲する環状区域を有し、中央区域を通過する放射の偏光方向を環状区域を 通過する放射に対して90°回転させる半波長素子を具え、この光学式走査装置 が、前記半波長素子と放射感知検出器との間に取り外し可能に配置され、半波長 素子の中央区域を通過する放射を透過する偏光子を具えることを特徴とする光学 式走査装置。 14.記録媒体で反射した放射ビームから電気的情報信号をてし発生する第1及 び第2の放射感知情報検出器を具え、第1の情報検出器が反射ビームのほぼ全断 面からの放射を受光し、第2の情報検出器が反射ビームの断面の主として中央部 分の放射を受光することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光学式走査装置。 15.請求項14に記載の光学式走査装置において、前記第2の情報検出器が前 記第1の情報検出器の中央部分を構成することを特徴とする光学式走査装置。 16.記録媒体で反射した放射ビームから情報信号を発生する放射感知情報検出 器を具え、情報検出器の放射感知面が、第1の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき走 査された記録媒体で反射した放射ビームのほぼ全断面からの放射を受光し、第2 の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき前記反射した放射ビームの断面の主として中央 部分の放射を受光する有効サイズを有する請求項1に記載の光学式走査装置。 17.前記第1の厚さを第2の厚さよりも厚くした請求項1に記載の光学式走査 装置。 18.前記第1の情報層が第2の情報層よりも高い情報密度を有する請求項17 に記載の光学式走査装置。 19.第1の情報層及び第1の厚さの第1の透明層を有する第1の形式の記録媒 体、並びに第2の情報層及び第1の透明層とは異なる第2の厚さを有する第2の 透明層を有する第2の記録媒体を光学的に走査するに当たり、第1の形式の記録 媒体を走査するとき、放射ビームを対物レンズにより第1の透明層を介してほぼ 第1の情報層の最良焦点に集束する工程と、第2の形式の記録媒体を走査すると き、前記放射ビームを対物レンズにより第2の透明層を介してほぼ第2の情報層 の近軸焦点に集束する工程とを具える光学的走査方法。 20.第1の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき、記録媒体で反射した放射ビームの 断面の少なくとも外側環状部分の放射から最良の焦点誤差信号を形成する工程と 、第2の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき、主として前記外側環状部分の内側の中 央部分の放射から近軸焦点誤差信号を形成する工程と、第1の形式の記録媒体を 走査するとき前記最良の焦点誤差信号に応じて対物レンズを制御し、第2の形式 の記録媒体を走査するとき前記近軸焦点誤差信号に応じて対物レンズを制御する 工程とを具える請求項19に記載の光学的走査方法。 21.第1の形式の記録媒体を走査するとき、記録媒体で反射した放射ビームの ほぼ全断面の放射から情報信号を発生する工程と、第2の形式の記録媒体を走査 するとき、前記断面の中央部分の放射から情報信号を発生する工程とを具え る請求項19に記載の光学的走査方法。
