An apparatus for detecting winding of a glass band around an upper forming roll, the optical path of a light beam running in the width direction of the glass band in a downstream region immediately after the upper forming roll is pulled out and slightly above the glass band. A light projecting device is arranged on one side in the longitudinal direction of the upper forming roll, and a light receiving device is arranged on the other side, so that the glass band is wound around the upper forming roll, a swell is generated, and the light beam is interrupted or received. An abnormality is detected by the change in the amount, and the detection signal is used to obtain the detection signal and the alarm is activated. In response to the detection signal, the roll driving device is controlled, and the upper and lower forming rolls and the downstream transport roll are rotated at a reduced speed or stopped.

A light beam is emitted from the optical device 8. Reference numeral 9 denotes a light receiving device. Light from the light projecting device 8, for example, a laser beam, is captured by the light receiving device 9, detected via the light receiving amplifier 9 ′, and detected by the recording device 10.

When the amount of received light decreases below the light amount level set in advance, that is, when an abnormality occurs, the alarm device 11 operates according to a detection signal from the detection and recording device 10, and issues an alarm. Alternatively, furthermore, upon receiving the detection signal from the recording / recording device 10, the roll driving device 13 decelerates the driving of the forming rolls 2, 3 and the downstream conveying roll 6 via the roll driving mechanism 12. Turn or stop.
