Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve productivity and yield by bending a band-shaped stock to an annular shape, welding both ends of an annular stock by a butt-welding resistance welding method of DC current and removing the excess metal part of the joined part. CONSTITUTION:The band-shaped stock 1 of a maraging steel is bent to form the annular stock 1. The end parts 2a, 2a thereof are crimped and butt-joined by electrodes 7, 7 and clamps 8, 8 of a butt resistance welding machine 6 with a DC power source to form the annular band 3. The excess metal part 4 generated in the butt joined part of the annular band 3 is removed by cutting or grinding to produce the endless metallic band 5. The continuous production of the endless metallic bands by each piece throughout the entire stage is possible in this way and the number of stages and the production cycles are shortened. The productivity is improved and the material loss is eliminated. The yield is thus improved.

However, in the conventional manufacturing method, (D) the sheet material is bent into a cylindrical shape and the edges of the substantially cylindrical material are brought into contact with each other by micro plasma welding, which makes it possible to reduce the thickness of the sheet material. After cutting into one round, it may be necessary to perform several additional roll rolling steps.

(Because the welding method used in the joining process is microplasma welding, not only does it take a long time to join, but welding defects are likely to occur at the welding start and end points.) The edge between the two ends of the cylindrical material (1 m (+61%) becomes scrap. Only a few endless metal bands can be made from one sheet, resulting in material loss or a large amount of tK.
