Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the precise measurement of the length of a subscriber's line when a terminal is not in the state of service, by determining the length of the subscriber's line on the basis of a delay time of a step voltage signal reflected by the terminal through the subscriber's line. CONSTITUTION:A terminal 1 is connected to a two-wire/four-wire conversion circuit 5 through lead-in relay contacts 31 and 32 of a subscriber's interface circuit 4 of a telephone exchange by a subscriber's wire 2. A central control circuit 9 operates a relay 3 of the circuit 4 corresponding to the subscriber's wire 2 to be measured, so as to make the subscriber's line 2 connected to a step voltage signal generator 7 and a signal processing circuit 8. Under the control of the circuit 9, the generator 7 generates a voltage signal of a step function. Monitoring the voltage signal of an output element of the generator 7, the circuit 8 measures a time difference between a step voltage signal supplied to the subscriber's line and the step voltage signal reflected by the terminal 1 and inputted through the relay contact 32, computes a distance from a delay time and reports the same to the circuit 9.
