Abstract

PURPOSE:To flatten a color filter layer and eliminate the influence of residual dross and dust on following processes by pressing filter dust produced in the formation of the color filter layer in the color filter layer while maintaining the thickness of the color filter layer. CONSTITUTION:On a base 1 of glass, etc., color filter layers 22-24 are formed several times. The filter dust produced in the formation of the color filter layers 22-24 sticks on the surfaces of the color filters layers 22-24, but the color filter layers 22-24 are pressed with specific pressure (4-10kg/cm<2>) to an extent where their thickness is not decreased, namely, maintained. Consequently, the filter dust which sticks on the surfaces of the color filter layers 22-24 and projects from the surface is crushed and pressed in the color filter layers 22-24 wholly or partially, so that the color filter layers 22-24 can be flattened. Then an organic insulating film 3, a transparent electrode film 4, and an orientation film 5 are laminated and the orientation film 5 is oriented to obtain the substrate for the liquid crystal display unit.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a color filter layer is used for color display on a liquid crystal display. However, if a color filter layer is provided on the outside of the display, the position of the color filter and the pixel (electrode) will depend on the viewing direction. As described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 61-102061, the color filter layer is provided on the inner surface of the substrate such as glass for holding the liquid crystal, as described in JP-A-61-102061.

Therefore, in forming a filter of three colors, it is necessary to repeat dyeing, electrodeposition or vapor deposition a plurality of times on a base such as glass. For this reason, the color of the color filter layer becomes lighter, dust adheres to the vicinity of the color filter layer, or impurities such as filter dust are mixed in the alignment process that is a process after the filter is formed to damage the film. Inconvenience such as uneven alignment of liquid crystal molecules occurs.

Further, in order to prevent disconnection of the electrode and occurrence of optical loss due to the unevenness of the filter surface, for example, in JP-A-62-280801, peeling is performed in a dried state where the solvent of the colored film is evaporated. A method for producing a color filter is described, in which the coating is smooth pressed while being heated to a temperature close to the melting point through a material and then heat-cured. According to this manufacturing method, since the colored coating is heated to near the melting point, the viscosity of the colored coating is reduced, and the unevenness of the surface can be easily flattened by a smooth press. It is necessary to perform heat treatment again for a long time in order to heat-cure the heat-resistant resin, and the viscosity of the colored film easily mixes with other adjacent color films, and the viscosity of the film during the heat-curing process after pressing Is lowered, so that the state in which dust or dust is likely to adhere continues.
That is, since the pressing is performed during the formation process of the color filter layer, it is not possible to sufficiently eliminate the adverse effect on the subsequent process due to the dust attached in the thermosetting process after the pressing.

The present invention has been made in consideration of the above points, and after the step of forming a color filter layer, the filter dust generated during the step of forming the filter layer is removed from the color filter layer. And a filter dust press-in step of press-fitting into the color filter layer while maintaining the thickness of the filter.

As described above, according to the present invention, since the filter dust press-in step of pressing the filter dust generated during the filter layer forming step into the color filter layer while maintaining the thickness of the color filter layer is provided, the filter dust adheres. Even if unevenness occurs on the surface of the color filter layer, the color filter layer can be flattened by press-fitting the filter dust into the color filter layer in the press-fitting process, and the residue and dust affect the subsequent process. Can be prevented. Furthermore, when filter dust of the same color is pressed in, the color becomes vivid.

First, the color filter layers 22, 23 and 24 are formed a plurality of times on the base 1 such as glass. For example, an acrylic polymer resin (thermoplastic) varnish is applied to the surface of the base 1 with a spinner, and a coating film 21 having a thickness of 3000 angstroms (0.3 μm) is provided. As shown in FIG. 3B, patterning is performed in stripes with a width of 300 μm and intervals of 660 μm. Thereafter, the stripe pattern filter layer 22 of a predetermined color (red, blue, green) as shown in FIG. 6C is fixed by immersing in a solvent mixed with an acid dye or applying a solvent to dye and fix the dye. , 22 can be obtained. Then, by repeating this while shifting the patterning position, as shown in FIG.
3,24 can be obtained. Other color filters, for example black contour filters, can be provided if desired.

In the patterning process and the dyeing process, filter dust having a size of about 5 to 100 μm (schematically indicated by a triangle in the figure) is generated. The filter dust generally includes a residue of a material used for forming the filter, but in addition to this, dust generated from a manufacturing apparatus, a person involved in manufacturing, or the like may be included. When the filter dust adheres, projections are formed on the surface of the color filter layer, and the projections have an adverse effect such as damage to the coating film in the subsequent steps. In particular, when the size of the filter dust is larger than the thickness of the liquid crystal layer, it may cause a short circuit of the electrodes.

Then, the color filter layers 22, 23 and 24 are pressed at a pressure of 4 to 10 kg / cm 2 . Although this press does not have a pressure enough to reduce the thickness of the color filter layers 22, 23, 24, filter dust is pressed into the color filter layers 22, 23, 24 by this press. here,
When filter dust of the same color is pressed into the color filter layers 22, 23, 24, the color becomes vivid.

Thus, after the color filter layer forming step, there is provided a step of pressing the color filter layers 22, 23 and 24 with a predetermined pressure that does not reduce the thickness of the color filter layers 22, 23, 24, in other words, maintains the thickness. So the color filter layer 2
The filter dust that adheres to the surfaces of 2, 23, and 24 and protrudes from the surfaces is crushed, and the whole or a part of the filter dust is pressed into the color filter layers 22, 23, and 24, so that the color filter layers 22, It is possible to make the surfaces of 23 and 24 free from protrusions due to filter dust.
