特開2000-010193号公報JP 2000-010193 A 特開2003-107580号公報JP 2003-107580 A

The applicant operates an exhibition facility that proposes home building techniques and attractive spatial configurations to potential customers who are considering purchasing a home, and in a hall installed in the exhibition facility, the above-mentioned video system is used to provide various video information to visitors. In the hall, visitors may also watch entertaining virtual images with accompanying children.

The invention disclosed in this application aims to realize a spatial form that allows a sense of immersion in the projected images (the feeling of being immersed in the world of the images) to be achieved more dynamically than ever before in various facilities that employ the above-mentioned imaging systems, using a simple wall structure.

To achieve the above-mentioned objective, the wall structure of the image projection space of the invention disclosed in this application adopts a basic configuration in which one of the walls surrounding the room is a projection wall capable of projecting images across its entire width, and in the wall structure of the image projection space in which an image projector is installed in a position opposite the projection wall, at least one of the left and right side walls continuous with the projection wall has a reflective surface material with a mirror attached to its surface installed so that it can be moved toward and away from the projection wall.

In the wall structure of the image projection space having this configuration, it is preferable that the reflective surface material is installed so that it can be separated from the projection wall surface by at least the width of the reflective surface material.

The invention disclosed in this application further adopts an additional configuration in which, in the wall structure of the image projection space according to the above-mentioned configuration, the side wall surface on which the reflective surface material is installed is formed so that the area near the inside corner that connects to the projection wall surface is curved concavely when viewed from the inside of the room, and the reflective surface material is formed so that the back surface of the portion close to the inside corner fits within the curved portion of the side wall surface, and is installed so that one edge of the mirror can abut against the inside corner.

In addition, in the wall structure of the image projection space related to this additional configuration, it is preferable that the image projection area is set so that the width of the image projected onto the projection wall surface matches the width of the projection wall surface.

The wall structure of the image projection space according to the invention disclosed in this application has a reflective surface material with a mirror attached to its surface that is installed on the side wall surface that is continuous with the projection wall surface onto which the image is projected, so that it can be attached and detached from the projection wall surface. Therefore, when an image is projected onto the projection wall surface with the reflective surface material abutting the projection wall surface, when the image is viewed from near the center of the room, the image projected onto the projection wall surface is also reflected in the mirrors on the left and right, and the image appears to be infinitely continuous in the horizontal direction. Therefore, when an image of an environment with ambiguous boundaries, such as a forest, beach, underwater, desert, snowy field, or space, is projected, the sense of expanse is emphasized, and the viewer can dynamically get the sensation of being immersed in that environmental world.

On the other hand, when projecting more concrete images or explanatory images that include text and graphic information, the content of the image can be conveyed effortlessly by moving the reflective surface away from the projection wall and projecting the image only onto the projection wall in front.

Furthermore, by forming the side wall surface so that the area near the inside corner where it connects to the projection wall surface is curved concavely when viewed from inside the room, and by forming the back surface of the reflective surface material into a shape that fits within the curved part of the side wall surface and positioning the reflective surface material so that one edge of the mirror can abut the inside corner, it becomes possible to efficiently switch between a mode in which abstract images that emphasize the sense of spaciousness are reflected on the left and right mirrors, and a mode in which concrete, explanatory images are projected only onto the projection wall surface in front, without adjusting the projection area of the image.

1A and 1B are a plan view and an enlarged view of an inside corner, showing a wall structure of an image projection space according to a first embodiment of the invention disclosed in the present application. 2 is a perspective view showing an image viewed when an image is projected in the image projection space of FIG. 1 with a reflective surface material with a mirror attached thereto being in contact with a projection wall surface. FIG.

The following describes an embodiment of the invention disclosed in this application with reference to the drawings.

Figures 1 to 3 show the wall structure of an image projection space according to a first embodiment of the invention disclosed in this application. In a room 1 that is rectangular in plan view and surrounded on all four sides, the upper wall surface 11 in the figure is the projection wall surface used as a screen for projecting images. At least the entire width (and preferably the entire height) of this projection wall surface 11 has a smooth, uniform finish in a single color suitable for projecting images.

Looking at the projection wall 11 from the front, at the rear of the room 1 opposite the projection wall 11, there are benches 2 or sofas for viewers, a table for meetings, etc. (not shown), and above that, a ceiling-suspended image projection device (projector) 3 is installed. Also, an entrance/exit 4 is provided on the wall 13 on the lower side of the figure opposite the projection wall 11.

The left and right side walls 12, 12 that are continuous perpendicular to the projection wall 11 do not have to be finished smoothly and uniformly like the projection wall 11. On the indoor side of each of these side walls 12, 12, reflective surface materials 5, 5 that can move relative to each side wall 12 are installed. The reflective surface material 5 is installed in a form similar to a sliding door fitting that moves linearly, suspended from a hanging rail 51 (see Figures 3 and 5) installed on the ceiling. A mirror 52 is stretched over the entire surface of this reflective surface material 5. This mirror 52 is a smooth, ordinary mirror that has not been given any special uneven processing or coloring.

Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the image viewed when an image is projected in the image projection space of Figure 1 with the left and right reflective surfaces 5, 5 in contact with the projection wall surface 11. The projection angle of the image projection device 3 is adjusted so that the width of the image projected onto the projection wall surface 11 matches the distance between the left and right mirrors 52, 52, i.e., the width dimension of the projection wall surface 11 minus the thickness 2d of the two reflective surfaces.

When an image is projected with the reflective surface material 5 with the mirrors 52 attached in contact with the projection wall 11, the image projected on the projection wall 11 is also reflected by the left and right mirrors 52, 52 when viewed from near the center of the room 1, and the image appears to be infinitely continuous in the horizontal direction. Therefore, when an image of an environment with vague contours, such as a forest, beach, underwater, desert, snowy field, or space, is projected, the sense of spaciousness is emphasized, and the viewer can dynamically get the sensation of being immersed in that environmental world.

However, more concrete images or explanatory images that include text and graphic information are not suited to a projection mode that emphasizes the sense of spaciousness by reflecting them on the mirror 52. When projecting such images, as shown in Figure 3, the reflective surface material 5 on which the mirror 52 is attached is moved away from the projection wall 11, and the image is projected only onto the projection wall 11 in front. This makes it possible to convey the content of the image effortlessly.

In this way, mirrored reflective surface material 5 that can move relative to side wall surface 12 is installed on the left and right side wall surfaces 12 that are continuous with the projection wall surface 11 onto which the image is projected, and a wall structure is adopted that moves reflective surface material 5 closer to and farther from projection wall surface 11 depending on whether an abstract image that emphasizes the sense of spaciousness is to be projected or a concrete, explanatory image is to be projected, making it possible to efficiently utilize the image projection space for a variety of purposes. The movement range of reflective surface material 5 is set so that it can be separated from projection wall surface 11 by at least the width of reflective surface material 5, making it clear how to distinguish between the two aforementioned uses.

However, in the configuration shown in FIG. 3, if an image of the same size as that shown in FIG. 2 (an image with a width matching the distance between the left and right mirrors 52, 52) is projected onto the projection wall 11, a long and narrow gap equivalent to the thickness d of the reflective surface material 5 will be created between the left and right recessed corners 14 where the projection wall 11 and the side wall 12 connect and the projection area of the image, which may reduce the sense of immersion in the image. Therefore, in order to improve on this point, the invention disclosed in this application employs a wall structure as shown in FIG. 4 as a second embodiment.

The configuration of the image projection space shown in Figure 4 is generally similar to that of the image projection space shown in Figure 1, but the cross-sectional shape of the side wall surface 12 side in the area near the inside corner 14 is curved concavely when viewed from inside the room. This curved portion 15 is formed, for example, by applying a suitable wet base material to the area near the inside corner 14, or by attaching a suitable dry base material processed into a curved shape and then laying a wall cloth on top of it. This curved portion 15 is made of the same finishing material as the flat portion of the side wall surface 12 and is seamlessly continuous with it, and appears integrated with the side wall surface 12 from inside the room 1. By forming such a curved portion 15, in comparison with the image projection space shown in FIG. 1, the inside corner 14 where the projection wall surface 11 and the side wall surface 12 connect is shifted toward the center of the projection wall surface 11 by a dimension equivalent to the thickness d of the reflective surface material 5, and the extended surface of the mirror 52 attached to the reflective surface material 5 is positioned so that it almost overlaps with the inside corner 14.

The portion of the reflective surface material 5 adjacent to the recessed corner 14 is also curved in accordance with the curved portion 15 of the side wall surface 12.
The back surface of the mirror 52 is cut off in a tapered shape as shown in the example, or is machined into a convex or stepped shape with a thickness that gradually decreases toward the inside corner 14, so that the mirror 52 fits into the curved portion 15 of the side wall surface 12. When the reflective surface material 5 thus formed is placed along the side wall surface 12 and brought into contact with the projection wall surface 11, one edge of the mirror 52 approximately matches the inside corner 14. In this state, when an image with a width that matches the width of the projection wall surface 11 (the distance between the left and right inside corners 14, 14) is projected onto the projection wall surface 11, the image fits exactly on the projection wall surface 11 and is reflected on the left and right mirrors 52, 52, appearing to be beautifully continuous. The viewing image is the same as that shown in FIG. 2.

On the other hand, when the reflective surface material 5 is spaced away from the projection wall 11 and an image of the same size is projected onto the projection wall 11, as shown in FIG. 5, the image also fits exactly within the width of the projection wall 11 in this case, providing a pleasant feeling of immersion in the image. Thus, it becomes possible to efficiently switch between a mode in which an abstract image that emphasizes the sense of spaciousness is projected onto the left and right mirrors 52, 52, and a mode in which a concrete, explanatory image is projected only onto the front projection wall 11, without having to adjust the projection area of the image.

The technical scope of the invention disclosed in this application should not be interpreted as being limited by the illustrated embodiments, but should be interpreted conceptually based on the claims. When implementing the invention disclosed in this application, the shape, structure, material, quantity, joining form, relative positional relationship, etc. of components not specifically specified in the claims may be modified as appropriate within the scope that provides substantially the same or greater effects as those of the illustrated embodiments.

For example, the side walls continuing to the left and right of the projection wall are not necessarily required to be perpendicular to the projection wall, and may be continuous at a non-perpendicular angle to the projection wall depending on the content of the image to be projected. In addition, in the illustrated embodiment, reflective surface materials are installed on both the left and right side walls of the projection wall, but a reflective surface material may be installed on only one of the side walls to project the image. The reflective surface material is not limited to the sliding door type fitting that moves laterally as illustrated, but may be suspended from above and raised or lowered, or rising from under the floor, or a flexible sheet-like mirror material that is rolled up and deployed, etc. Depending on the content of the image to be projected, the surface of the reflective surface material may be subjected to special optical processing. Other modifications are possible without departing from the spirit of the invention.
