Description
本発明の活性エネルギー線硬化型オフセット印刷用インキ組成物は、オフセット平版印刷に適用されるインキ組成物であり、紫外線や電子線等の活性エネルギー線の照射を受けて硬化する能力を備える。後述するように、本発明のインキ組成物は、エチレン性不飽和結合を備えた化合物(モノマーやオリゴマー等)と光重合開始剤とを含有し、活性エネルギー線の照射を受けた際に光重合開始剤から生じたラジカルがエチレン性不飽和結合を備えた化合物を高分子量化させることで硬化する。そのため、印刷直後に印刷物の表面でべたついているインキ組成物に活性エネルギー線が照射されると、瞬時にこのインキ組成物が硬化して皮膜となり、乾燥(タックフリー)状態となる。
エチレン性不飽和結合を備えた化合物は、後述する光重合開始剤より生じたラジカルによって重合して高分子量化する成分であり、モノマーやオリゴマー等と呼ばれる成分である。また、オリゴマーよりもさらに高分子量であるポリマーについてもエチレン性不飽和結合を備えたものが各種市販されている。このようなポリマーも上記モノマーやオリゴマーによって、又は当該ポリマー同士によって架橋されて高分子量化することができる。そこで、こうしたポリマーを、上記モノマーやオリゴマーとともにエチレン性不飽和結合を備えた化合物として用いてもよい。
光重合開始剤は、活性エネルギー線の照射を受けてラジカルを発生させる成分であり、生じたラジカルが上記エチレン性不飽和結合を備えた化合物を重合させ、インキ組成物を硬化させる。光重合開始剤としては、活性エネルギー線が照射された際にラジカルを生じさせるものであれば特に限定されない。
本発明のインキ組成物は、エポキシ化油脂を含む。既に述べたように、本発明者らは、活性エネルギー線硬化型のインキ組成物を用いて印刷を行う場合に、当該組成物の成分としてエポキシ化油脂を添加することにより紫外線照射量の少ない状況であっても印刷物の良好な乾燥が得られることを知見した。一般に、エポキシ基を有する化合物がラジカル反応系では重合反応を生じないことに鑑みれば、このような知見は極めて意外なものである。本発明は、このような意外な知見に基づいてなされたものであり、そのインキ組成物はエポキシ化油脂を含むものである。
本発明のインキ組成物には、必要に応じて着色成分を添加することができる。着色成分は、インキ組成物に着色力や隠蔽力等を付与するために添加される成分であり、着色顔料、白色顔料、金属パウダー等が挙げられる。このような着色成分としては、従来からインキ組成物に使用されている有機及び/又は無機顔料を特に制限無く挙げることができる。なお、本発明のインキ組成物が着色成分を含まない場合にはコーティング用途等に好ましく用いられる。
本発明のインキ組成物には、上記の各成分に加えて、必要に応じて他の成分を添加することができる。そのような成分としては、体質顔料、樹脂成分、重合禁止剤、分散剤、リン酸塩等の塩類、ポリエチレン系ワックス・オレフィン系ワックス・フィッシャートロプシュワックス等のワックス類、アルコール類等が挙げられる。
上記本発明の活性エネルギー線硬化型オフセット印刷用インキ組成物を用いて印刷を行うことを特徴とする印刷物の製造方法も本発明の一つである。本発明の印刷物の製造方法は、本発明のインキ組成物を用いることを除いて、通常のオフセット平版印刷技術を用いて実施されるものである。このときに用いられるオフセット平版印刷は、湿し水を用いた水ありの印刷方式であってもよいし、専用の平版印刷版を用いることにより湿し水を用いずに印刷を行う水なしの印刷方式であってもよい。
ポリジアリルフタレート(株式会社大阪ソーダ製、A−DAP)20質量部、ジトリメチロールプロパンテトラアクリレート(DI−TMPTA)79質量部、及びメチルヒドロキノン1質量%の混合物を100℃で60分間加熱することで溶解させ、ワニスを調製した。このワニスを以下に述べる各インキ組成物の調製に用いた。
カーボンブラック(三菱化学株式会社製、MA−70)、上述のワニス、トリメチロールプロパントリアクリレート(TMPTA)、ジトリメチロールプロパンテトラアクリレート(DI−TMPTA)、エポキシ化大豆油(ADEKA株式会社製、O−130P、オキシラン酸素濃度6.9%)、イルガキュア907(商品名、BASF社製、光重合開始剤)、4,4’−ジエチルアミノベンゾフェノン(EAB、光重合開始剤)、大豆油(表2のみ)、及び亜麻仁油(表2のみ)の各成分を表1及び2に記載した配合量で混合した後、三本ロールで混練することにより、実施例1〜7、比較例1〜6及び参考例1の各インキ組成物を調製した。なお、表1及び2に示した各配合量の数値は質量部である。調製された各インキ組成物の状態を調べ、相溶性が良好で析出物の存在しないものについては表1及び2の相溶性欄に○を記載し、相溶性が不良で析出物の存在するものについては表1及び2の相溶性欄に×を記載した。析出物を生じたインキ組成物については、もはや印刷への使用は不可能なので以下の評価を実施していない。
用紙にインキ組成物を展色し、その展色面に紫外線を照射すると、インキ組成物に含まれる重合性化合物(エチレン性不飽和結合を有する化合物)がラジカル重合することにより用紙表面に存在するインキ組成物が硬化し乾燥する。その際、硬化が不十分だと、時間の経過とともに用紙表面のインキ組成物が用紙の内部へ沈み込む。このことは、経時における紙面濃度の低下や、表面平滑性が失われることに伴う光沢の低下として観察される。そこで、各実施例、比較例及び参考例のインキ組成物のそれぞれについて、用紙にインキ組成物を展色後硬化させ、硬化直後及びそれから24時間経過後の紙面濃度の差、及び硬化から24時間経過後の光沢値を求めることにより硬化性を評価した。すなわち、硬化性が良好なインキ組成物は紙面濃度の差が小さくなる一方で、光沢値が大きくなり、硬化性が悪いインキ組成物であるほど紙面濃度の差が大きくなり、光沢値が小さくなる。評価手順は、次の通りである。

- エチレン性不飽和結合を備えた化合物、及び光重合開始剤を含み、
さらに、少なくとも1つのエポキシ基を有する脂肪酸とアルコールとのエステルであるエポキシ化油脂を1質量%〜20質量%含むことを特徴とし、前記油脂がトリグリセリドであり、前記トリグリセリドが大豆油、トウモロコシ油、ヒマワリ油、亜麻仁油、カノーラ油、菜種油、ベニバナ油、トール油、桐油、魚油、牛脂油又はヒマシ油である活性エネルギー線硬化型オフセット印刷用インキ組成物。 - 前記エポキシ化油脂がエポキシ化大豆油である請求項1記載の活性エネルギー線硬化型オフセット印刷用インキ組成物。
- 請求項1又は2記載の活性エネルギー線硬化型オフセット印刷用インキ組成物を用いて印刷を行うことを特徴とする印刷物の製造方法。
