Description
より具体的には、本発明は、バッテリー・パックと、そのバッテリー・パックの充電と放電を管理するため、そして又、データ、情報およびソフトウェアプログラムを、これらを受容するよう適切に構成された装置に、受領、移送、およびダウンロードする能力を持つバッテリー管理システムに関する。
1つの態様では、このバッテリーは更新されたデータ、動作パラメータおよび/またはソフトウェアを、放電されたバッテリーに再充電するのに使用されるバッテリー充電器のメモリーから得る。
他の態様では、再充電されたバッテリーが更新されたデータ、動作パラメータおよび/またはソフトウェアを、電力供給のためにこのバッテリーを活用する器具に伝え、そして、器具に接続されると、更新されたデータ、動作パラメータおよび/またはソフトウェアをこの器具のメモリーおよび/またはプロセッサに配布させる。更にその他の態様においては、バッテリーは充電器もしくは充電回路のメモリー、または器具もしくは放電回路のメモリーをチェックして、このバッテリーと器具双方のデータに関連する日付け、動作パラメータおよび/またはソフトウェアを判断し、更新されたデータ、動作パラメータおよび/またはソフトウェアをこの器具に提供するか、またはこのバッテリーのメモリーを更新し、および/または更新されたデータ、動作パラメータおよび/またはソフトウェアを他のバッテリーまたは器具に更に配布するため、この器具からより新しいデータ、動作パラメータおよび/またはソフトウェアを取り出す。
平均的な体格の患者では少なくとも30分間、平均より体格の大きい患者では少なくとも20分間機械式圧迫装置の動作を維持できるバッテリーに利点がある。
充電中にそれぞれのセルの電圧は、セルの過剰充電を防ぐために独立して監視される。一つの例示的な実施態様では、例えばO2マイクロ社が提供するOZ890などのバッテリー・パック保護および監視集積回路(IC)410である場合もあるマイクロチップ上の監視システムが、様々なセルの充電を制御するために使用される。このような配置においては、セル監視線390は、IC410の代表的なピン入力にポジティブな信号を送る。例えば、セル1はIC410の入力線BC1を用いて監視され、同様にIC410の入力線BC11を用いて監視されるセル11まで続く。
本発明の幾つかの実施態様は、壊滅的な不具合に対する2次的保護または過剰電圧保護を含むこともある。このような2次的保護は、バッテリー・パックの電圧および/または主バスを通る電流の流れを監視し、特定の電流または電圧の閾値を超える時に処理を行うように設計された様々な回路によって備えられる。一つの実施態様では、このような保護は、例えばO2マイクロ社が提供するOZ8800などの集積回路500によって提供されることもある。バッテリー・パックに使用されるセルの数によって複数のIC500が必要になるかもしれないことを当業者は理解するであろう。例えば、OZ8800の2次的レベルバッテリー保護集積回路は3個から7個の個々のセルを監視できる。従って、11個のセルを使用する場合には、2個のOZ8800が必要となる。
本発明のもう一つの実施態様ではバッテリー・パック中に残存する有用な充電量を監視する「燃料測定」機能を含む。このような燃料測定機能性は、使用時間、放電率、およびバッテリーの温度に基づき使用および待機状態のための残余バッテリー容量を計算するなど、様々なタスクを実行するよう設計された集積回路を用いて具備される。このような回路はまた、ほぼ完全な充電状態からほぼ完全な放電状態までの放電サイクルのプロセスにおける真のバッテリー容量を決定することも出来る。
本発明のもう一つの実施態様では、バッテリー管理システムは、バッテリー管理システムが実行する様々な機能の全般的な監視装置としての役割を果たすパック・コントローラ800を含む。パック・コントローラ800は典型的には集積回路であるが、バッテリー・パックの範囲内で利用可能なスペース量によって、同じ機能を実行する離散回路を使用することもできる。
以下で明らかにされる通り、本発明の様々な実施態様に組み込まれる様々なプロセッサおよび集積回路および論理システムは、前面側バス320および裏側バス630を通じて互いに通信する能力を有するため一つの統合システムとして機能することができる。幾つかの実施態様では、これらのバスを通じる通信はシステム管理バス(SMBus)仕様を用いて実行される。SMBusは、IC410、IC 610、2次的保護システム500、事象保存装置900、EEPROM1000、パック・コントローラ800、およびその他の回路などの様々なシステム要素チップが互いに、およびシステムの残りの部分と通信できるようにする2線インターフェースである。SMBus仕様に関する更なる情報は、「システム管理バス(SMBus)仕様バージョン2.0」−SBS実行者フォーラム2000年8月3日−に含まれており、この文書全体は本文書では参考文献として挙げる。
発明者らは、本発明の幾つかの実施態様において、n−FETを閉じさせるのに必要な電圧が、バッテリー・パックから利用可能な電圧を超えることを観察してきた。例えば、10ボルトのバイアス電圧を要するn−FETを用いると、バッテリーを充電または放電するためにn−FETを適当な電圧が通るようにするのに十分なほどn−FETを駆動させるためのバッテリー電圧が、バイアス電圧の駆動電圧に加えてn−FETには必要である。従って、バッテリー・セルによって供給される電流をn−FETが伝導できるようにするために、n−FETのゲートに供給される電圧を上げるための電圧ブースト回路が含まれる。
図6を再度参照し、バッテリー・パック300は、様々なプロセッサと、例えばパックコントローラ800、1次保護回路410、IC510のようなコントローラ、およびEEPROM1000、EEPROM900、EEPROM620、その他のようなメモリーを含む。プロセッサは、バッテリーの動作を制御するよう構成され、メモリーは、バッテリーの動作に使用される動作パラメータおよび/またはプロセッサがソフトウェア設計者によって必要とされるタスクを実行するためにプロセッサをプログラムし制御するのに使用されるソフトウェアプログラミング、およびその他のデータと情報を保存するよう構成されている。更に、メモリーは、例えば、パラメータまたはソフトウェアの特定のバージョンに関連するバージョン数などの、動作パラメータおよび/またはソフトウェアに関係する、または関連する情報を保存してもよく、またはメモリは、また、バッテリーまたは機器の使用、バッテリー、充電器またはバッテリーの電力供給対象機器の性能特性またはシステム構成に関連するデータ、およびバッテリー、充電器またはバッテリーの電力供給対象機器の動作に関係のある保守データを累積し、保存するのに使用されることもある。
Claims (1)
- データキャリアのメモリーに保存されている情報を、充電器のメモリー、及び、該データキャリアの電力供給対象として構成された装置のメモリーに、伝染式に配布するためにデータキャリアをバッテリーとして使用する方法であって、
データキャリアを、第1の充電器又は該データキャリアの電力供給対象として構成された第1の装置に挿入し、
データキャリアのメモリーに動作可能に接続されたデータキャリアのプロセッサと、前記第1の充電器のメモリーに動作可能に接続された前記第1の充電器のプロセッサ又は前記第1の装置のメモリーと動作可能に接続された前記第1の装置のプロセッサとの間に交信を確立し、
前記データキャリアのメモリーに保存された第1セットの情報に関連するバージョンの識別子と、前記第1の充電器のメモリー又は前記第1の装置のメモリーに保存された第2セットの情報に関連するバージョンの識別子とを比較し、
