Description
表示パネル2は、ガラス基板11上に、表示エリア部21と、インターフェース(I/F)及びタイミングジェネレータの機能を備えるドライバIC3と、垂直ドライバ22及び水平ドライバ23と、を備えている。
本実施形態に係る液晶表示装置1の製造方法は、例えば以下のプロセスを含む。製造装置は、画素基板(第1基板)70AのTFT基板71として透光性基板である、ガラス基板を用意する第1基板の準備工程を処理する。
評価例1乃至評価例3について、以下、評価した結果を説明する。これら評価例で、本発明は限定されるものではない。図22は、本実施形態に係る液晶表示部の評価例1において、画素の応答速度とディスクリネーションライン同士の平均間隔との関係を説明するための説明図である。隣り合うディスクリネーションラインdclの平均間隔lが無限大の電圧OFF時の基準応答時間Tfを1として、評価例1の副画素Vpixの開口幅、セル厚dを同一の条件とした場合における平均間隔lが2μm、3μm、5μm、10μm、20μm、100μmの基準応答時間に対する電圧OFF時応答時間τの相対値をシミュレーションした。図22は、シミュレーション結果を示している。図22に示すように、平均間隔lが10μm以下の場合、液晶表示装置1は、電圧OFF時応答時間τを早くすることができる。その結果、液晶表示装置1は、液晶の応答速度を早くすることができる。
次に、図24及び図25を参照して、本実施形態及び変形例で説明した液晶表示装置1の適用例について説明する。図24及び図25は、本実施形態に係る液晶表示装置を適用する電子機器の一例を示す図である。本実施形態に係る液晶表示装置1は、図24に示すカーナビゲーションシステム、テレビジョン装置、デジタルカメラ、ノート型パーソナルコンピュータ、図25に示す携帯電話等の携帯端末装置あるいはビデオカメラなどのあらゆる分野の電子機器に適用することが可能である。言い換えると、本実施形態に係る液晶表示装置1は、外部から入力された映像信号あるいは内部で生成した映像信号を、画像あるいは映像として表示するあらゆる分野の電子機器に適用することが可能である。電子機器は、液晶表示装置に映像信号を供給し、液晶表示装置の動作を制御する制御装置4(図1参照)を備える。

Claims (5)
- 第1基板と、
前記第1基板に対向配置された第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に配置され、液晶分子を含む液晶層と、
前記第1基板と前記液晶層の間に設けられた第1電極と、
前記第1電極と対向する位置に配置された第2電極と、
前記第1基板と液晶層の間に配置された第1配向膜と、
前記第2基板と液晶層の間に配置された第2配向膜と、を含み、
前記第1電極は、
第1の方向に延びる電極基部と、
当該第1の方向と異なる第2の方向に延び、かつ互いに一定距離を隔てて前記電極基部から複数突出する櫛歯部とを含み、
前記液晶分子の初期配向は、前記第1配向膜及び前記第2配向膜によって前記第2の方向に配向され、
前記第1基板及び前記第2基板の少なくとも1つは、前記櫛歯部の中心が前記第1基板に垂直な方向で重なり合う位置及び隣り合う前記櫛歯部間の中心が前記第1基板に垂直な方向で重なり合う位置に、通過する光の強度を低下させる遮光部を備える、液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1電極は、
第1の方向に延びる複数の電極基部と、
前記第1の方向において互いに一定距離を隔てて前記電極基部のそれぞれから櫛歯状に突出し、前記第1の方向と異なる第2の方向に延びる複数の第1櫛歯部と、
前記第1の方向において互いに一定距離を隔てて前記電極基部のそれぞれから櫛歯状に突出し、前記第2の方向とは逆方向に延びる複数の第2櫛歯部と、を含み、
隣り合う前記電極基部から延びる前記第1櫛歯部及び前記第2櫛歯部の先端がそれぞれ間隔をおいて対向している、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 複数の副画素を含む画素がマトリクス状に配置され、
前記遮光部は、前記第2基板が備える、前記副画素の開口を囲む遮光性の遮光部と同層に設けられる、請求項1又は2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 複数の副画素を含む画素がマトリクス状に配置され、
前記遮光部が前記第1基板に備えられ、前記遮光部の材料が、前記第1電極又は前記第2電極を作用させる配線と同じ材料である、請求項1乃至請求項3のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置と、
前記液晶表示装置に入力信号を供給する制御装置と、を有する電子機器。
