第1の空孔率及び第1の厚さを有する第1導電性多孔質層と、第1の空孔率より低い第2の空孔率と第1の厚さより薄い第2の厚さを有する第2導電性多孔質層とからなる導電性多孔質層を備え、ガス拡散層と触媒層との間に配置され、前記ガス拡散層から供給される反応ガスを固体高分子電解質膜の表面に形成された触媒層へ供給するとともに、電流取出用の電極となる燃料電池用ガス拡散電極の製造方法であって、
多孔質層を親水化処理溶液に浸漬して親水化する親水化工程と、
親水化した前記多孔質層に導電性物質及びポリテトラフルオロエチレン微粒子を含有するインクスラリーを塗着する塗着工程と、
前記導電性物質及び前記ポリテトラフルオロエチレン微粒子を塗着した多孔質層を熱処理する熱処理工程と、
を備えたことにより、前記多孔質層を第1導電性多孔質層とするとともに、前記第1導電性多孔質層の表面に第2導電性多孔質層を形成することを特徴とする燃料電池用ガス拡散電極の製造方法。
