本発明は一般に材料配置機械を用いた複合構造の製造に関し、より特定的には(しかし排他的でなく)、単位面積当たりの欠陥密度および/または単位面積当たりの累積的欠陥幅などの、複合構造の欠陥特性を測定するためのシステムおよび方法に関する。
複合構造は長年にわたり当該技術で公知である。複合構造は多くの異なる態様で形成することができるが、複合構造を形成するための1つの有利な手法は繊維配置または自動照合プロセスである。従来の自動照合手法によれば、1つ以上の複合材料のリボン(複合ストランドまたはトウとしても公知である)が、材料配置機械を用いて基板に配置される。基板はツールまたは心棒でもよいが、より従来的には、先に配置されて圧縮されていた複合材料の1つ以上の下部層から形成される。
単位面積当たりの欠陥密度および/または単位面積当たりの累積的欠陥幅などの複合構造の欠陥特性を測定するためのシステムおよび方法。1つの好ましい実施例では、複合構造の欠陥特性を測定する方法は一般に、複合構造の第1の基準点から欠陥までの第1の距離を測定するステップと、複合構造の第2の基準点から欠陥までの第2の距離を測定するステップと、複合構造の基準領域を確立するために第1の距離および第2の距離を用いるステップと、基準領域内で検知される各欠陥を考慮してそこから複合構造を表す欠陥特性を生成するステップとを含む。

1つの局面によれば、本発明は、単位面積当たりの欠陥密度および/または単位面積当たりの累積的欠陥幅などの、複合構造の欠陥特性を測定する方法を与える。1つの実施例において、方法は一般に、複合構造の第1の基準点から欠陥までの第1の距離を測定するステップと、複合構造の第2の基準点から欠陥までの第2の距離を測定するステップと、複合構造の基準領域を確立するために第1の距離および第2の距離を用いるステップと、基準領域内で検知される各欠陥を考慮してそこから複合構造を表わす欠陥特性を生成するステップとを含む。
面積当たりの欠陥密度(すなわち単位面積当たりの欠陥数)、単位面積当たりの累積的欠陥幅、および/または欠陥の場所である。複合構造が製造されている間にさまざまな実施例によってこれらの欠陥特性が測定できるようになり、そのため手動検査プロセスおよび関連する機械の停止時間をなくす。

Claims (3)
- 複合構造の欠陥特性を測定する方法であって、
材料配置ヘッドユニットの圧縮ローラの回転をモニタすることにより、配置されているコースに沿った材料配置ヘッドユニットの直線速度を測定するステップと、
コースに沿った第1の基準点から複合構造の欠陥までの直線距離を測定するために直線速度を用いるステップと、
複合構造の第2の基準点から欠陥までの横方向の距離を測定するステップと、
基準領域を確立するために直線距離および横方向の距離を用いるステップと、
基準領域内の各欠陥の幅を測定するステップと、
幅合計を生成するために基準領域内の欠陥の幅を合計するステップとを含む、方法。 - 基準領域の単位面積当たりの累積的欠陥幅を測定するために幅合計を基準領域の面積で除すステップをさらに含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 圧縮ローラの回転をモニタするステップは、圧縮ローラと回転を共有するよう結合されたコードリングの対照をなす部分間の遷移の頻度を検知し、数え、確立するステップをさらに含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
