図12に示す構造のRGB3色からなる表示装置を以下に示す方法で作成した。
(1)発光効率。
(2)CIE色度座標。
(3)発光輝度100cd/m2にて1500ルクスの明るさに相当する明所における波長535nm以上575nm以下の平均コントラスト値。
(4)発光輝度100cd/m2にて、白色(色純度:0.32,0.33)表示を行った場合の消費電力。
表3に示す様に有機化合物層の膜厚と反射率調整層の膜厚を発光色毎に個別最適化した以外は、実施例1と同様にして表示装置を作製した。
反射率調整層を無くした以外は実施例1と同様にして表示装置を作製した。このようにして得られた表示装置の外光反射特性を図15に示す。また、実施例1と同様に評価した結果を表5に示す。この表示装置の波長535nm以上575nm以下の平均コントラスト値は、1.33と低く、日中の屋外環境にて表示画像を視認することはできなかった。
表示装置の発光取り出し面に円偏光板を設けた以外は、比較例1と同様にして表示装置を作製した。このようにして得られた表示装置の外光反射特性を図16に示す。また、実施例1と同様に評価した結果を表5に示す。なお、本比較例で使用した円偏光板におけるEL発光の透過率は、略45%であった。
表4に示す様に有機化合物層の膜厚を発光色毎に個別最適化した以外は、比較例2と同様にして表示装置を作製した。このようにして得られた表示装置の外光反射率を図17に示す。また、実施例1と同様に評価した結果を表5に示す。
本比較例では、反射率調整層を、異常分散性を有していない、SiO2及びTiO2により構成し、有機化合物層膜厚及び、反射率調整層の膜厚を各発光色で同一とした以外は、実施例1と同様に多色表示装置を作製した。有機化合物層及び反射率調整層の膜厚を表6にまとめて示す。
本比較例では、反射率調整層を、異常分散性を有していない、SiO2及びTiO2により構成し、有機化合物層膜厚及び、反射率調整層の膜厚を発光色毎に個別最適化した以外は、実施例1と同様に多色表示装置を作製した。有機化合物層及び反射率調整層の膜厚を表6にまとめて示す。

Claims (4)
- 光取り出し電極と、反射電極と、前記光取り出し電極と前記反射電極の間に配置されている有機化合物層と、を有する有機EL素子を複数有する表示装置において、
前記複数の有機EL素子は赤色、緑色、青色を発光する前記有機EL素子を含み、
前記複数の有機EL素子のいずれにも、前記反射電極よりも前記光取り出し電極側に、400nm以上700nm以下の波長領域において、波長が長くなるにつれて屈折率が大きくなる分散特性を示す材料からなる層が配置されており、
前記表示装置の外光反射率は、400nm以上700nm以下の波長領域のうち535nm以上575nm以下の領域で最小値を持つことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記分散特性を示す材料は、その消衰係数κが3以下を示す材料であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示装置の外光反射率が400nm以上700nm以下の波長領域のうち535nm以上575nm以下の領域で最小値を持つように、前記有機化合物層の膜厚、或いは前記分散特性を示す材料からなる層の膜厚または材料が設定されていることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記分散特性を示す材料からなる層の膜厚は前記複数の有機EL素子で同一であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至3のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
