そこで、油性製剤において保湿効果を付与するには、スクワラン、ワセリンといった炭化水素類、オリーブ油、ホホバ油といった油脂、コレステロールなどのステロール類が油性保湿剤としてしばしば使用される。これら油性保湿剤は、水溶性多価アルコールに較べて、すべすべ感などの使用感は良好であるが、保湿効果に劣り、保湿効果を高めるために高配合すると、多量の乳化剤が必要となってしまい、すべすべ感が低下してしまう。すなわち、油性製剤において保湿効果、すべすべ感が良好で、なおかつ高配合できる化粧料用基剤の開発が望まれている。
このような状況下で、油性製剤で保湿感、すべすべ感の両者の特性を出すために、ポリグリセリン高級脂肪酸エステルと非イオン界面活性剤を組み合わせ(例えば特許文献1および2)、N−長鎖アシル中性アミノ酸アルキル若しくはアルケニルエステル(例えば特許文献3)、ポリオキシアルキレン付加アルキルグルコシドと親油性ポリオキシアルキレン変性シリコーンの組み合わせ(例えば特許文献4)、などが開示されているが、いずれも十分な効果が得られていないのが現状である。
