上記の層構成において、陽極および陰極は、それぞれ透明電極31(第1および第2透明電極31a、31bを含む)または反射電極33のいずれかである。
(実施例1)
透明ガラス基板として、純水洗浄および乾燥した50×50×0.7mmのコーニング社製1737ガラスを用いた。透明ガラス基板を蒸着装置内に搬送し、クマリン6およびDCM−2からなる色変換膜を作製した。クマリン6およびDCM−2を蒸着装置内の別個の坩堝にて加熱する共蒸着によって、厚さ200nmの色変換膜を作製した。この際に、クマリン6の蒸着速度を0.3nm/s、DCM−2の蒸着速度を0.005nm/sとなるように、それぞれの坩堝の加熱温度を制御した。本実施例の色変換膜は、色変換膜の総構成分子数(この場合には全色素のモル数)を基準として2モル%のDCM−2を含んだ(クマリン6:DCM−2のモル比が49:1である)。
本比較例は、第1色素と第2色素との比率が本発明の範囲外である色変換膜を与える。DCM−2の蒸着速度を0.087nm/sに変更したことを除いて、実施例1と同様にして、色変換膜を作製した。得られた色変換膜は、色変換膜の総構成分子数を基準として25モル%のDCM−2を含んだ(クマリン6:DCM−2のモル比が3:1である)。
本比較例は、透明な媒質中に第1色素および第2色素を分散させた色変換膜を与える。透明な媒質としては、m−MTDATAを用いた。m−MTDATA、クマリン6およびDCM−2を蒸着装置内の別個の坩堝にて加熱する3元の共蒸着によって、厚さ200nmの色変換膜を作製した。この際に、m=MTDATAの蒸着速度を0.3nm/s、クマリン6の蒸着速度を0.007nm/s、DCM−2の蒸着速度を0.006nm/sとなるように、それぞれの坩堝の加熱温度を制御した。本実施例の色変換膜は、色変換膜の総構成分子数を基準として5モル%のクマリン6および5モル%のDCM−2を含んだ(m−MTDATA:クマリン6:DCM−2のモル比が18:1:1である)。
実施例1ならびに比較例1および2にて作製した色変換膜に対して、強度一定の単色光(波長480nm)を照射した際のフォトルミネセンス(PL)スペクトルを測定した。得られたスペクトルを図2に示す。図2において、比較例1および2のスペクトルは発光強度軸(縦軸)を10倍に拡大して示している。

本実施例は、図1(b)に示すトップエミッション型デバイスを作製した例を示す。

Claims (9)
- 第1色素および第2色素を含む、2μm以下の膜厚を有する色変換膜であって:第1色素は色変換膜への入射光を吸収して、そのエネルギーを第2色素へと移動させる色素であり;第2色素は、第1色素から該エネルギーを受容して光を放射する色素であり;第1色素は、前記入射光を十分に吸収できる量で該色変換膜中に存在し;第2色素は、該色変換膜の総構成分子数を基準として10モル%以下の量で存在することを特徴とする色変換膜。
- 第2色素は、該色変換膜の総構成分子数を基準として0.1〜5モル%の量で存在することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の色変換膜。
- 第1色素は、該色変換膜の総構成分子数を基準として50〜99.99モル%の量で存在することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の色変換膜。
- 蒸着法によって形成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の色変換膜。
- 少なくとも一方が透明電極である一対の電極と、該一対の電極に挟持される有機EL層と、色変換膜とを有する多色発光有機ELデバイスであって:前記色変換膜は、第1色素および第2色素を含み;前記色変換膜は2μm以下の膜厚を有し;第1色素は色変換膜への入射光を吸収して、そのエネルギーを第2色素へと移動させる色素であり;第2色素は、第1色素から該エネルギーを受容して光を放射する色素であり;第1色素は、前記入射光を十分に吸収できる量で該色変換膜中に存在し;第2色素は、該色変換膜の総構成分子数を基準として10モル%以下の量で存在することを特徴とする多色発光有機ELデバイス。
- 第2色素は、該色変換膜の総構成分子数を基準として0.1〜5モル%の量で存在することを特徴とする請求項5に記載の多色発光有機ELデバイス。
- 第1色素は、該色変換膜の総構成分子数を基準として50〜99.99モル%の量で存在することを特徴とする請求項5に記載の多色発光有機ELデバイス。
- 前記色変換膜が蒸着法によって形成されていることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の多色発光有機ELデバイス。
- 前記色変換膜と前記透明電極とが接触して配置されていることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の多色発光有機ELデバイス。
