そのためリブを細くするには限界があり、特に前側フランジ部近傍にリブを形成する形状のスプ−ルの場合、リブが太くならざるを得ず、スプ−ル前方側の重量増による持ち重り感が増し、長時間の釣りによる釣り人への負担が懸念されている。

また、特許文献1の構成は、スプ−ルの中心を通り径方向に伸長する径方向線xに対してリブを釣糸の巻回方向後方側に所定角度傾斜することで形成されており、釣糸に張力が掛かった際に釣糸巻回胴部に加わる回転方向の力をリブで抑えることが困難であり、リブが変形する不具合を生じる。

そのため特許文献1では釣糸巻回胴部内側の略全幅に渡ってリブを形成することでリブの変形に対処しているが、スプ−ルが充分な強度を得る為には広範囲に渡ってリブを形成する必要があり軽量化に限界がある。
前側フランジ部近傍の径方向内側にリブを形成する構成の場合、ロ−タの円筒部が釣糸巻回胴部内に進入してくるため、リブを形成できる範囲が限定されてしまい、充分なリブの強度を得難い。
その結果リブが破損してしまう恐れがあるため、特許文献1の如く傾斜させたリブの構成を転用することが困難である。
