Description
【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、長期保存が可能な紙容器入り液体飲料等を製造するための充填包装機におけるヒートシール装置、詳しくは液体飲料等の内容物が充填されたチューブ状包装材料を、液面下で横断状にヒートシールするシール装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
従来、ジュース等の液体が充填密封された直方体状等の包装容器を製造する場合、特公昭55−3215号公報に見られるように、紙、アルミ箔、合成樹脂を積層体とした包材を用い、該包材を搬送しながら連続的にチューブ状として、図1に示すように、該チューブ状の包材1を、高周波コイル2を有するシールジョー3と硬質ゴムからなるシーリングゴム4を有する対向ジョー5とからなる加圧手段を用いて、液面下で横断状にヒートシールし、ヒートシールされた2つのシール帯域間を切断刃6によりカッティングするシール装置を用いることはよく知られている。

また、特開昭58−134744号公報、特開平5−269854号公報、特開平7−164523号公報、特開平8−218805号公報には、上記ヒートシール装置において、シールジョーの高周波コイルの作用面に突条を設け、該突条により溶融した樹脂をシール帯域内に押し出す積層材料のヒートシール装置が開示されている。

また、特許第2571977号公報には、上記ヒートシール装置において、チューブ状包装材料のシール部の容器内面側となる方に溶融樹脂を流出させた場合、容器内側の縁部に、波打った溶融樹脂ビードができ、容器に外力がかかった場合、ビードの波の頂部から亀裂が入り、容器が破れるという問題を回避するために、U字状高周波コイルの真直部の外側(容器内側)に2つの磁性体を配置し、容器内側となる部分を加熱しないようにすることが開示されている。

また、特開平8−230834号公報には、上記ヒートシール装置において、その長手方向に凸部が設けられ、該凸部の両側に凸部と平行に形成された溝を有する高周波コイルを用いることにより、包材の樹脂が溶融され凸部により押されても、溶融樹脂をシール帯域外へ流出させることなく、上記溝内に滞留させることが記載され、また、上記溝が形成されていない従来のヒートシール装置においては、シール帯域から流出した溶融樹脂が固化して包装容器の内面側に固着し、これが原因になってシール工程以後の成形工程においてヒビ割れが発生することも記載されている。

また、特開平8−244728号公報には、上記ヒートシール装置において、シール帯域形成部が外側(容器内面側)にいくにしたがって漸次遠ざかる方向に傾斜するように形成された高周波コイルを用い、液面下でのチューブの加圧時にシール帯域から容器内側に向かって液体及び溶融樹脂をスムーズに排除してヒートシールすることが記載されている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
液体飲料等の内容物が充填されたチューブ状包装材料を液体が存在する状態で横断状にヒートシールするシール装置において、ヒートシールを良好に行うためには、チューブの加熱・加圧によるシール時に、チューブのシール帯域から液体をできる限り排除することが必要である。しかし、液体と接触しているチューブ内面は必ずしも完全に平坦ではなく、微細にみると、ごく僅かな凹凸を有している。そして、前記特開昭58−134744号公報、特開平5−269854号公報、特開平7−164523号公報、特開平8−218805号公報や特開平8−230834号公報に記載のヒートシール装置においては、溶融した樹脂をシール帯域外へ流出させることなくシール帯域内で滞留させるシール方式を採用していることから、チューブ内面のごく僅かな凹凸に入った液体や汚れをシール帯域外へ流出させることができず、シール性において充分といいうるものではなかった。

一方、本発明者らは、シール時にこの凹凸に入った液体や汚れを排除するために、シール帯域内の液体を溶融樹脂とともにシール帯域外へ流出させればよいことを見出し、上記特開平8−244728号公報に記載の発明を完成するに至ったが、このヒートシール装置を用いる方法では、凹凸に入った液体や汚れを完全に排除し、優れたシール性が得られるものの、容器内側に流出した溶融樹脂が均一にはみ出さないことがあり、図2に示すように、容器内側の縁部に波打った溶融樹脂ビード7を形成し、シール工程以後の成形機等による二次工程において、容器に圧力がかかった場合にビード7の波の頂部8から亀裂が発生し、ごく稀に液漏れが生じることがわかった。

本発明の課題は、上記従来のヒートシール装置における問題を解決しうるヒートシール装置、すなわち充分な樹脂の流動があり、容器の圧縮強度を損なわないようなヒートシール装置、詳しくはチューブ内面のごく僅かな凹凸に入った液体や汚れを溶融樹脂と共にシール帯域外へ流出させて完全なシール性を達成すると共に、容器内側に流出した溶融樹脂によるヒビ割れの発生がない圧縮強度に優れたヒートシールを達成することができるヒートシール装置を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明者らは、先に、液体飲料等の内容物が充填されたチューブ状包装材料を液面下で横断状にヒートシールするシール装置を備えた高速充填機を開発した(特開平10−86915号公報参照)。この高速充填機におけるヒートシール装置は、上記のヒートシール装置におけるように、ヒートシール部とカッティング部とがともにシールジョーに備えられたものではなく、図3に示すように、シール部9の次工程にカッティング部10が設けられている。このことからして、図4に示すように、上記高速充填機におけるヒートシール装置として、高周波コイル2を有するシールジョー3とシーリングゴム4を有する対向ジョー5とからなり、カッティング機構のないものを使用していたが、このヒートシール装置11では、シール帯域をも含めて全面的に押圧することから溶融樹脂の流れが不十分で完全なシールが達成できず、チューブ内面のごく僅かな凹凸に入った液体を溶融樹脂と共にシール帯域外へ完全に流出させようとすると、容器内側方向しか流出させるところがなく、容器内側に向かって流出させると容器内側の縁部に波打った溶融樹脂ビードが形成され、容器に外力がかかった場合にヒビ割れが発生する恐れがあり、いずれにしても従来のヒートシール装置では完全なシールが得られないことがわかった。

かかる問題を解決するため、まず本発明者らは、カッティング側に上記凹凸に入った液体を溶融樹脂と共に流出させるべく、図5に記載するような突条11を有する高周波コイル2のカッティング側外側に溝12を、容器内面側外側に磁性体13を有するヒートシール装置を用いてヒートシールを行ったところ、溶融樹脂の流動性は改善されたものの、溶融樹脂がカッティング側に向かって流出することから、カッティング部位からのジュース等の液体の排除が充分でなくなり、この液溜まりがカッター刃や装置を汚し、カビ等の衛生面での新たな問題を発生させることがわかった。

そこで、本発明者らは、従来のヒートシール装置の考え方とは異なる発想、すなわち容器内側に積極的に溶融樹脂を流出させるという考え方に到達し、高周波コイルの容器内面側外側に隣接して溝を設け、該溝に溶融樹脂を流出させると、溶融樹脂の流動性は改善される上に、以外にも、溶融樹脂ビードが形成されても凹凸がない場合、容器にかかった外力に対してヒビ割れ等が発生することなく、完全なヒートシールが達成しうることを見出し、また、かかる知見を従来のカッティング機構を備えたヒートシール装置に適用したところ、同様に完全なヒートシールが達成しうることを確認し、本発明を完成するに至った。

すなわち本発明は、合成樹脂層を含む積層体からなる包材をチューブ状とし、該チューブ状の包材を、加熱機構を有する開閉自在な一対の加圧部材を用いて、液面下で横断状にヒートシールするシール装置において、加圧部材の少なくとも一方に、シール帯域の容器内面側外側に隣接して合成樹脂溜まりを形成し得る溝が設けられていることを特徴とするヒートシール装置や、積層体がさらにアルミ箔層を有し、加熱機構を有する開閉自在な一対の加圧部材が、平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルを備えたシールジョーとその対向ジョーとからなることを特徴とする上記ヒートシール装置に関する。

また本発明は、溝が平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルの容器内面側外側に隣接して又は平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルの容器内面側の一部とその外側にかけて設けられていることを特徴とする前記ヒートシール装置や、該溝が平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルの両外側に設けられていることを特徴とする上記ヒートシール装置や、溝が平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルの容器内面側に加えて、カッティング側外側に隣接して設けられていることを特徴とする上記ヒートシール装置や、溝が断面円弧状をし、その深さ寸法がその幅の1/2よりも小さい溝であることを特徴とする上記ヒートシール装置に関する。

さらに本発明は、平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルがその長さ方向の全部又は一部に突条を有することを特徴とする前記ヒートシール装置や、加圧部材がカッティング機構を備えたことを特徴とする上記ヒートシール装置に関する。

【発明の実施の形態】
本発明における合成樹脂層を含む積層体からなる包材としては、その最内面に加熱手段によってヒートシールすることができるポリエチレン等の合成樹脂層と、容器の剛性を維持するための紙シートと、容器内へ空気、微生物等を透過させないアルミ箔層又は合成樹脂フィルム層などからなる積層体を例示することができる。そして、高周波を利用した加熱機構を採用する場合は、アルミ箔層を含む積層体が用いられ、インパルスや超音波を利用した加熱機構を採用する場合は、アルミ箔層は必ずしも必要ではなく、酸素不透過性の合成樹脂フィルム層を含む積層体を用いることができる。

本発明においてシール帯域とは、加熱機構を有する開閉自在な一対の加圧部材を用いて、包材の最内面の合成樹脂層に熱と圧力が負荷され、ヒートシールされている部分をいい、該シール帯域の長手方向と直交する方向の端部は、その一方の端部がジュース等の充填物の側、すなわち容器内面側となり、他方の端部が容器を1個ずつ切り離すためのカッティング側となる。また、本発明においては、かかるシール帯域に対応する加圧部材の作用面をも便宜上シール帯域ということにする。

本発明における加圧部材の加熱機構としては、前記のように高周波、インパルス、超音波等による加熱機構を例示することができるが、高周波によるヒートシールにおいては、超音波等によるヒートシールに比べて、加熱領域と非加熱領域との境界が不均一であるため、シール帯域の境界も不均一になる傾向があるが、本発明におけるように、シール帯域の外側に溝を設けることで、シールエッジが直線的で凹凸のない樹脂溜まり部が形成され、シール帯域の境界が均一になる。したがって、本発明において、加圧部材の加熱機構として高周波を用いると、本発明の効果を特に享受することができ、有利である。

本発明において、包材をチューブ状とし、該チューブ状の包材を、加熱機構を有する開閉自在な一対の加圧部材を用いて、液面下で横断状にヒートシールするシール装置としては、その加圧部材の作用面に設けられた溝を除いては、前記従来公知のヒートシール装置を用いることができる。このヒートシール装置における一対の加圧部材は、インパルスにおける加熱部又は高周波や超音波における加熱源を備えた加圧部材(以下「シールジョー」という)と、これらを備えていない加圧部材(以下「対向ジョー」という)とからふつう形成されるが、一対の加圧部材の両方に、例えば一方にインパルスによる加熱部を、他方に超音波による加熱源を備えた加圧部材を用いることもできる。

そして、本発明のヒートシール装置は、少なくとも加圧部材の一方の作用面に、シール帯域の容器内面側外側に隣接して合成樹脂溜まりを形成し得るような溝が設けられていることを特徴とするものであるが、かかる溝は一対の加圧部材の両方の作用面に設けてもよいし、シールジョー又は対向ジョーのどちらか一方の作用面に設けておいてもよい。そして、どちらか一方に設ける場合は、ふつうシールジョーの作用面に配設される。

本発明において、包材として合成樹脂層とアルミ箔層とを有する積層体を用い、加熱機構を有する開閉自在な一対の加圧部材として、平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルを有するシールジョーとシーリングゴムを有する対向ジョーが備えられた加圧部材を用いる場合、該平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルの容器内面側外側に隣接して又は平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルの容器内面側の一部とその外側にかけて上記溝、好ましくは断面円弧状でその深さ寸法がその幅の1/2よりも小さい、例えば1/3程度の溝を設けることが望ましい。

かかる溝を設けることにより、シール帯域内の包材の最内面の合成樹脂層が、加熱機構を備えた加圧部材の作用により、溶融され、該合成樹脂層表面に付着していたジュース等の充填物や汚れなどの夾雑物と共に容器内面側に向かって押し流され、シール帯域から流出した該樹脂は溝に流入し、容器内面側外側に隣接して合成樹脂溜まりが形成される。その結果、シール帯域には夾雑物のない優れたシール性を有する薄い合成樹脂層が形成されることになる。

また、シール帯域から流出した樹脂により溝が埋め尽くされ、シールエッジが直線的で凹凸がない均一な幅の合成樹脂溜まりが形成されるように、あらかじめ上記溝の幅や深さをを設定しておくことが好ましく、均一な幅のこの合成樹脂溜まり部から亀裂が生じることはない。そして、この合成樹脂溜まり部は上記のように夾雑物を含むため密封性にはそれほど寄与しないが、シール強度を高めるものといえる。

そして、シールジョーにU字状等の高周波コイルを設けて、切断予定部を介してチューブ状包材の2箇所を同時にヒートシールする場合には、平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルの両外側に、すなわち両容器内面側外側に、例えば2本の溝を設けることが好ましい。

また、本発明においては、平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルの容器内面側に加えて、カッティング側外側に隣接して溝を設けることもできる。このカッティング側外側に隣接して設けられている溝は、加熱領域と隣接して設けられていることから、シール面から押し出された溶融樹脂がこの溝にも流入するようになっている。かかる溝を設けることにより、シール帯域内の包材の最内面の合成樹脂層が溶融されると、シール帯域内の溶融樹脂の一部がカッティング側に向かって押し流され、該溝に流入し、カッティング側外側に隣接して合成樹脂溜まりが形成されることにより、シール帯域には夾雑物のない一層薄い層の合成樹脂層が形成されることになる。そして、このカッティング側外側に隣接して形成された合成樹脂溜まり部は、容器内面側外側のそれと異なり、シールエッジが直線的で凹凸がない均一な幅の合成樹脂溜まり部とすることは要求されない。

さらに、上記平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイルの長さ方向の一部に突条を設けることが、あらかじめ包材に設けられているクリース(折り目)部に起因するトンネル発生によるシール不良を確実に防止する点等から好ましいが、高周波コイルの長さ方向の全部にわたって突条を設けても差し支えない。また、突条を設ける位置は、シール帯域内であれば容器内面側寄りあるいはカッティング側寄り等適宜選択することができる。そしてまた、本発明のヒートシール装置は、従来のヒートシール装置と同様に、加圧部材にカッティング機構を備えたものであってもよい。

以下、本発明にかかるヒートシール装置を図6〜11を参照して説明するが、本発明は、これら図面に記載されたものに限定されるものではない。

図6〜11に示される本発明のヒートシール装置は、包材1として合成樹脂層とアルミ箔層とを有する積層体を用い、加熱機構を有する開閉自在な一対の加圧部材として、平坦な作用面を有し、内部に冷却水通路14を有する高周波コイル2を備えたシールジョー3とシーリングゴム4を有する対向ジョー5が備えられ、該シールジョー3にシール帯域の容器内面側外側に隣接して合成樹脂溜まり15を形成し得るような溝16が設けられている。

そして、図6に示されるヒートシール装置は、溝16が平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイル2の容器内面側の一部とその外側にかけて設けられており、図7に示されるヒートシール装置は、溝16が平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイル2の容器内面側外側に隣接して設けられている。また、図8には、平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイル2の容器内面側の溝16に加えて、カッティング側外側に隣接して溝12が設けられているヒートシール装置が示されている。図9〜11には、図6〜8に示されるヒートシール装置の高周波コイル2の平坦な作用面に突条11を有するヒートシール装置が示されている。そしてまた、図12には、容器内面側に設けられた2本の溝16が平坦な作用面を有する高周波コイル2の両外側に設けられているヒートシール装置が示されている。

【発明の効果】
本発明によると、カッティング部の液溜まりを少なくすることができ、より衛生的なパックが生産できる。しかも、夾雑物と共にシール帯域外へ流出した溶融樹脂が均一な幅の樹脂溜まりを形成し、その部分からヒビ割れを生じることがなく、また、シール帯域内の狭雑物が排除されることから、優れたヒートシールを達成することができる。

Claims (3)
- 合成樹脂層を含む積層体からなる包材をチューブ状とし、該チューブ状の包材を、加熱機構を有する開閉自在な一対の加圧部材を用いて、液面下で横断状にヒートシールするシール装置において、加圧部材の少なくとも一方の作用面に、シール帯域の容器内面側外側に隣接して合成樹脂溜まりを形成し得る溝が設けられていることを特徴とするヒートシール装置。
- 溝が、断面円弧状をし、その深さ寸法がその幅の1/2よりも小さい溝であることを特徴とする請求項1記載のヒートシール装置。
- 加圧部材が、カッティング機構を備えたことを特徴とする請求項1又は2記載のヒートシール装置。
