Description
前記表示部に配置されている第1の前記有機EL素子と、前記第1の有機EL素子よりも前記表示部の端部に近い位置に配置されている第2の前記有機EL素子に駆動電圧を与える回路と、を有する表示装置において、
前記第1の有機EL素子における前記駆動電圧の降下は、前記第2の有機EL素子における前記駆動電圧の降下よりも大きく、
前記第1の有機EL素子の光取り出し効率は、前記第2の有機EL素子の光取り出し効率よりも高く、かつ前記第1の有機EL素子における光取り出し効率と前記第1の有機EL素子に与えられた前記駆動電圧によって生じる駆動電流との積と、前記第2の有機EL素子における光取り出し効率と前記第2の有機EL素子に与えられた前記駆動電圧によって生じる駆動電流との積とが一定となるように、
前記第1の有機EL素子の前記有機化合物層の膜厚と、前記第2の有機EL素子の前記有機化合物層の膜厚とを、異ならせたことを特徴とする表示装置、を提供する。
前記表示部に配置されている第1の前記有機EL素子と、前記第1の有機EL素子よりも前記表示部の端部に近い位置に配置されている第2の前記有機EL素子に駆動電圧を与える回路と、を有する表示装置の製造方法において、
前記有機化合物層を形成する工程は、
前記第1の有機EL素子の前記駆動電圧と前記第2の有機EL素子の前記駆動電圧の差を補償するように、前記第1の有機EL素子の前記有機化合物層の膜厚と前記第2の有機EL素子の前記有機化合物層の膜厚とを異ならせる工程であることを特徴とする表示装置の製造方法を提供する。
前記複数の有機EL素子を形成する工程は、前記有機EL素子を構成する有機化合物を蒸着により成膜する蒸着工程を有し、
前記蒸着工程は、前記表示装置領域毎に開口パターンが異なるマスクを用い、
前記マスクの前記開口パターンは、前記表示領域毎に、中央部の開口が、周辺部の開口よりも広いことを特徴とする表示装置の製造方法を提供する。
第1の有機EL素子と、第2の有機EL素子とで有機化合物層の膜厚が異なるとは、例えば、R、G、Bの3色の画素を複数配列した表示装置であって、赤色の素子と青色の素子とで膜厚が異なることを意味するものではない。本発明に係る表示装置は、表示領域の中央部と周辺部で発光強度のムラの少ない表示装置を得るためのものであり、R、G、Bの3色の画素を有する場合には、少なくとも1色の画素において有機化合物層の膜厚が異なる素子を有することを意味するものである。また、光取り出し効率とは、有機化合物層において発生した光のうち、有機EL素子の外部へ取り出される光の割合のことである。

Claims (6)
- 上部電極と、下部電極と、前記上部電極と前記下部電極との間に配置されている有機化合物層とを有する有機EL素子が複数配置されている表示部と、
前記表示部に配置されている第1の前記有機EL素子と、前記第1の有機EL素子よりも前記表示部の端部に近い位置に配置されている第2の前記有機EL素子に駆動電圧を与える回路と、を有する表示装置において、
前記第1の有機EL素子における前記駆動電圧の降下は、前記第2の有機EL素子における前記駆動電圧の降下よりも大きく、
前記第1の有機EL素子の光取り出し効率は、前記第2の有機EL素子の光取り出し効率よりも高く、かつ前記第1の有機EL素子における光取り出し効率と前記第1の有機EL素子に与えられた前記駆動電圧によって生じる駆動電流との積と、前記第2の有機EL素子における光取り出し効率と前記第2の有機EL素子に与えられた前記駆動電圧によって生じる駆動電流との積とが一定となるように、
前記第1の有機EL素子の前記有機化合物層の膜厚と、前記第2の有機EL素子の前記有機化合物層の膜厚とを、異ならせたことを特徴とする表示装置。 - 前記上部電極は、光取り出し側の電極であり、前記下部電極は反射部材であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記有機化合物層の膜厚は、前記有機化合物層内に存在する発光位置と、前記反射部材の反射位置との間の膜厚であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記上部電極は半透明反射電極であり、且つ、前記有機化合物層の膜厚は、前記半透明反射電極の前記下部電極側の界面と、前記反射部材の反射位置との間の膜厚であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記上部電極は陰極であり、前記下部電極は陽極であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置を有することを特徴とする撮像装置。
