図13〜15では、本発明のインプラントの別の好ましい実施形態について、その全体を参照番号500により参照して表している。インプラント500は、ヒトの脊椎の隣接する2つの椎体の間で最初に椎間板空間内に挿入するための前端部502と、前端部502の反対側にある後端部504と、上側表面506と、下側表面508と、上側表面506と下側表面508の間にあるサイド510、512とを備えた外部ハウジング501を有している。インプラント500のハウジング501は、骨成長促進材料を保持するように構成された中空の内部514を有する。この実施形態では、上側表面506および下側表面508のそれぞれは、少なくとも1つの弓形部分507と少なくとも1つの非弓形部分509をサイド510、512の近傍に有することが好ましい。上側表面506および下側表面508の非弓形部分509は椎間板空間に隣接する端部プレートの方向に向けるように適合されており、かつインプラント500が椎間板空間内に挿入されたときに隣接する椎体を支持するように構成されている。上側表面506および下側表面508の弓形部分507は、椎間板空間の高さにまたがりかつ隣接する椎体内に形成される移植空間内に挿入されるように適合されている。こうした移植空間は、ドリル、トレフィン(trephine)、リーマ、バリ(burr)、およびその意図した目的に適した当業者に周知の別の任意の骨除去デバイス(ただし、これらに限らない)などの骨除去デバイスを用いて形成することがある。

- 前記ハウジング(101、301)および前記回転可能部材(120、320)は、前記回転可能部材(120、320)の回転を180度以下に制限するように協働している、請求項1または2に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 前記回転可能部材(120、320)の前記開口(130、330)の少なくとも一部分は、前記展開済み位置にあるときに、隣接する椎体から隣接する椎体まで、前記インプラント(100、300)の前記ハウジング(101、301)を通り、かつ前記回転可能部材(120、320)を通って骨が成長できるように、前記ハウジング(101、301)の前記開口(116、316)の少なくとも一部分と概ね整列するように構成される、請求項1乃至3のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 前記ハウジング(101、301)は、前記回転可能部材(120、320)をその内部に受け容れるために開き、かつ少なくとも一部の前記回転可能部材(120、320)を前記ハウジング(101、301)の内部に保持するために閉じるように構成される、請求項1乃至4のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 前記インプラント(100、400、300、800)は、高さと前記高さと比べてより大きい幅を有し、かつ前記ハウジング(101、301)の前記中空の内部に挿入されるように構成された第2の回転可能部材(420、820)をさらに備え、前記第2の回転可能部材(420、820)は、前端部(422、822)、後端部(424、824)、中間長手方向の軸、最上部、および最底部を有しており、前記第2の回転可能部材(420、820)の前記最上部および前記最底部のそれぞれは、少なくとも1つの骨係合用突出部(432、832)を含み、前記骨係合用突出部(432、832)を前記第2の回転可能部材(420、820)の中間長手方向の軸の周りに回転させることによって、前記骨係合用突出部は、隣接する椎体の骨を貫通可能に係合するように適合される、請求項1乃至5のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、400、300、800)。
- 前記ハウジング(101、301)は横方向断面を有しており、前記横方向断面は、少なくともその一部が前記ハウジング(101、301)の中間長手方向の軸の少なくとも一部分に沿って概して正方形状である、請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 前記ハウジング(101、301)の前記中空の内部(114、314)は、前記ハウジング(101、301)内における前記回転可能部材(120、320)の回転の程度を制限するように構成される、請求項1乃至7のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 前記ハウジング(101、301)の前記中空の内部(114、314)は、少なくとも1つの接触表面(135、335)を含み、前記接触表面は、前記回転可能部材(120、320)の回転を制限するために、前記回転可能部材(120、320)の一部分と接触するように適合される、請求項1から7のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 前記インプラント(100、300)は、椎間板空間の横方向幅の半分より小さい幅を有し、前記インプラント(100、300)のうちの少なくとも2つが、前記椎間板空間内に移植可能となるように、前記インプラント(100、300)が前記椎間板空間の内部に挿入されるように適合される、請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 骨成長促進材料と組み合わせらる、請求項1乃至10のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 前記骨成長促進材料は、骨、骨誘導生成物、脱塩骨基質、骨化性たんぱく質、骨形成たんぱく質、ヒドロキシアパタイト、および骨を生成させるようにコード化した遺伝子のうちの1つから選択される、請求項11に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 傷の形成を阻害するように適合された化学物質と組み合わされる、請求項1乃至12のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
- 抗菌性の材料と組み合わされる、請求項1乃至13のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。

- 前記上側表面(106、306)および下側表面(108、308)は、横方向で概して非弓形状である、請求項1乃至15のいずれか一項に記載のインプラント(100、300)。
