【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、肘当ての左右方向の位置を調節しうるようにした椅子の肘掛け装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
椅子の肘当ての左右方向の位置を、着座者の体格による腕の違い、またはコンピュータ等のOA機器のキーボードなどを操作する際における腕の支持位置を変更するために調節しうるようにすることは、作業性や疲労度を改善する上において重要である。

このように、肘当ての左右方向の位置を調節しうるようにした従来の肘掛け装置としては、例えば実開平3−109556号公報や特開平10−42999号公報等に記載されているものがある。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
上述した従来の肘掛け装置は、いずれも、肘掛け本体と肘当てとの間に、弾性係合突起と、それが弾性的に係脱する複数の係合溝とを設け、肘当てを左右方向に回動させて、係合突起をいずれかの係合溝と選択的に弾性係合させることにより、肘当ての左右位置を調節するようになっているため、肘当てに左右方向の比較的強い力が加わると、係合突起が係合溝より離脱し、一度調節した肘当ての左右位置が容易に変わってしまう恐れがある。

このようなことのないように、本願出願人は、肘当て支持部の下面と、肘当ての下面に突設した操作ボタンの上面とに、互いに係合し合う波状面を形成し、操作ボタンをばねに抗して下方より押し上げたときに、波状面同士の係合が解除されて、肘当ての左右位置を調節しうるようにした肘掛け装置を提案している(特開平9−121975号公報参照)。

しかし、この肘掛け装置においても、操作ボタンは、肘当ての下面より突出し、その下方は大きく開放されているため、操作ボタンに他物が当たるなどして上方に押動された際に、一度調節した肘当ての左右位置が変わってしまう恐れがあった。

本発明は、上記問題点に鑑みてなされたもので、操作手段を操作したときにのみ、肘当てを回動しうるようにし、かつ操作手段に他物が当たるのを防止して、それが容易に押動されることのないようにした、椅子の肘掛け装置を提供することを目的としている。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明によると、上記課題は、次のようにして解決される。
(1)座体の側部より起立する肘掛け支柱の上端に、前後方向を向く肘当てを、左右方向に回動可能に枢着して、肘掛けを形成し、かつ前記肘当てを、その内部に設けた係止部と係合することにより、前記枢軸を中心とする任意の回動位置で停止させうる操作手段を設けてなる椅子の肘掛け装置において、前記肘掛け支柱の後端上部に肘当ての後端部を枢着するとともに、肘掛け支柱の前端上部に、前上方を向く支持アームの下端を水平回動可能に枢着し、かつ該支持アームの前端上部を、肘当ての前端部下面に前後方向に移動可能に枢着することにより、前記肘掛けにおける肘当ての下方に、前記肘掛け支柱と肘当てと支持アームとにより囲まれた、手が挿入可能な大きさの開口部を、左右方向に貫通するように設け、該開口部内に、前記操作手段を設ける。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施形態を、図面に基づいて説明する。
図1は、本発明を適用した椅子(A)の側面図で、背フレーム(1)の下端における若干前下方(以下、図1の左方を前とする)に傾斜する左右1対のベース杆(2)のほぼ中間部の外側面には、1対の肘掛け(3)が左右対向状に取付けられている。

両肘掛け(3)は、ベース杆(2)より若干前傾して起立する肘掛け支柱(以下、支柱と略称する)(4)と、これに上下動可能に嵌合された後記する肘当て支持杆(11)と、この上端部にほぼ水平をなして取付けられた肘当て(5)とを備え、肘当て(5)は、後記する高さ調節機構と水平位置調節機構とにより、高さと、左右方向の位置とを調節しうるようになっている。
図2〜図8に示すように(以下、左方の肘掛けについてのみ説明する)、上記支柱(4)は、ほぼ卵形断面をなす金属パイプにより形成され、その下端部は、ベース杆(2)の外側面に結合された正面視L字形をなすパイプ状の接続杆(6)の上端に嵌合され、それらに挿通したねじ(7)により抜け止めされている。

支柱(4)の下端部を除いた外周面は、合成樹脂製の内カバー(8a)と外カバー(8b)とからなる左右2分割構造の支柱カバー(8)により覆われている。支柱カバー(8)の上端部は漸次広幅とされ、その後部側の上端は肘当て(5)の後端部下面と当接している。
