Claims (27)
- 少なくとも一つの気筒であって、各気筒は、燃焼室と、ピストンと、吸気弁と、排気弁とを有し、前記各気筒の機械的圧縮比が12:1より大きく約40:1未満である前記少なくとも一つの気筒と、
各吸気弁と連通する吸気通路と、
各排気弁に連通する排気通路と、
前記燃焼室または前記吸気通路内に燃料を噴射する少なくとも1つの燃料噴射器を有する燃料取扱システムであって、1より大きく7.0未満の空気:燃料比(λ)を有する空気:燃料混合物を提供する燃料取扱システムと、
前記ピストンの圧縮行程の最終部で前記燃焼室内の前記燃料に点火する点火システムと、
排気ガスを排気ポートからエンジン吸入口へ再循環させるための排気ガス再循環(EGR)手段と、
再循環排気ガスを、EGR通路内に噴射される所定量の霧状の水と直接接触させることにより冷却するための冷却手段と、
を備えることを特徴とする内燃エンジン。 - 前記内燃エンジンの感知された作動パラメータに基づいて、前記燃焼室に導入される前記再循環排気ガスの量を調整し、前記霧状の水の所定量および前記空気:燃料比を調整するように構成されたエンジン制御装置をさらに含む請求項1に記載の内燃エンジン。

排気ガスの温度を感知し、
前記EGRレベル、前記感知された排気ガスの温度、および前記計算された空気/燃料混合比に基づいて水の噴射体積を決定し、
前記内燃エンジンの燃焼室に排気通路から、所望のEGRレベルに相当する排気ガスの量を再循環する弁を制御し、
再循環排気ガス中に前記決定された体積の水を噴射する水噴射器を制御し、
前記燃焼室内に前記計算された空気/燃料混合比の空気/燃料混合物を導入する燃料噴射器を制御することを含み、
前記弁、前記水噴射器および前記燃料噴射器の制御は、13:1よりも大きな機械的圧縮比を提供するピストンが前記燃焼室を形成する気筒内の上死点位置に到達する前に、所定の間隔で起こることを特徴とする方法。 - 前記排気ガスを再循環させるように制御される前記弁は、下死点位置までの前記ピストンの移動中、所定の時間、開いたままにされる前記気筒の排気弁である請求項21に記載の方法。
