化学式2においてBの左側の「−」は、Bが化学式1のベンゼンに直接連結されることを意味する。
Si(R1)n(R2)4−n
接着剤としては、陽イオン重合性化合物として、脂環式及び/または脂肪族エポキシ化合物を主成分に含み、必要に応じてオキセタン化合物または前記陽イオン重合性官能基を有するシラン化合物を希釈剤または添加剤として含む陽イオン硬化型接着剤組成物;ラジカル重合性化合物として前記アクリルアミド系化合物を主成分に含み、必要に応じて他のラジカル重合性化合物を副成分に含むラジカル硬化型接着剤組成物;ラジカル重合性化合物として、前記化学式8〜10のうちのいずれか1つとして示す化合物を主成分に含み、必要に応じて他のラジカル重合性化合物を含む接着剤組成物または前記エポキシ樹脂、または前記脂環式エポキシ化合物と脂肪族エポキシ化合物との混合物と前記化学式8〜10のうちのいずれか1つとして示すラジカル重合性化合物を含む混成硬化型接着剤組成物を硬化された状態で含む接着剤が用いられるが、これに限定されない。
このような粘着剤層は、いわゆる相互浸透高分子ネットワーク(Interpenetrating Polymer Network;以下、「IPN」)を含む粘着剤である。用語「IPN」は、粘着剤層内に少なくとも2個以上の架橋構造が存在する状態を意味することができ、一例として前記架橋構造は、互いに縛られた状態(entanglement)、または連結(linking)または浸透(penetrating)している状態で存在することができる。粘着剤層がIPNを含むと、過酷条件下で耐久性が優れ、さらに作業性や光漏れまたはクロストークの抑制能が優れた光学素子が実現されることができる。
活性エネルギー線硬化型アクリル組成物に含まれる、反応性希釈用単量体としては、活性エネルギー線硬化型官能基、例えば、アクリロイル基またはメタクリロイル基などを1個または2個以上有する単量体が例示され、例えば、前記(メタ)アクリル酸エステル単量体や多官能性アクリレートなどが用いられる。前記において多官能性アクリレートとしては、前記粘着剤の項目で記述した化合物から適切な種類を選択することができる。

液晶層の耐久性は、実施例及び比較例で製造された光学素子に対して耐久テスト後に発生する位相差値の変化率を測定して評価した。光学素子を横及び縦の長さが10cmになるように裁断した後、粘着剤層でグラス基板に付着し、耐熱条件である80℃から100時間または250時間の間放置した後、前記耐熱条件に放置される前の液晶層の位相差値対して放置後の位相差値の減少量を百分率で換算して耐久性評価に使用した。
O:耐熱条件で100時間及び250時間放置後の位相差値の変化量がすべて8%未満である場合
立体映像の観察時にクロストーク率は、暗状態(Dark state)と明状態(Bright state)での輝度の比率に定義することができる。実施例及び比較例では、前記光学素子が偏光めがね方式の立体映像表示装置に適用された場合を上程し、クロストーク率は下記方式で測定する。光学素子を使用して図7に示すような立体映像表示装置を構成する。その後、立体映像表示装置の通常の観測地点に立体映像観察用偏光めがねを位置させる。前記において通常の観測地点は、観察者が立体映像を観察する場合、立体映像表示装置の中央から前記立体映像表示装置の水平方向の長さの3/2倍に該当する距離分離れた地点であり、このような位置で偏光めがねは観察者が表示装置の中央を観察することを仮定し、位置させる。前記において立体映像表示装置の水平方向長さは、観察者が立体映像を観察する状態を仮定した場合、前記観察者を基準とした水平方向の長さ、例えば、映像表示装置の横長さとすることができる。前記のような配置において立体映像表示装置がL信号を出力するようにした状態で偏光めがねの左眼用及び右眼用レンズの背面に輝度計(商品名:SR−UL2 Spectrometer)を配置し、それぞれの場合の輝度を測定した。前記において、左眼用レンズの背面から測定される輝度は明状態の輝度であって、右眼用レンズの背面から測定される輝度は暗状態の輝度である。各輝度を測定した後に、明状態の輝度に対する暗状態の輝度の比率([暗状態の輝度]/[明状態の輝度])を百分率で求め、これをクロストーク率(Y)と規定することができる。また、クロストーク率は、さらに前記と同一方式で測定するが、立体映像表示装置がR信号を出力している状態において、明及び暗状態での輝度を求めて測定することができる。この場合、左眼用レンズの背面から測定される輝度は暗状態の輝度であり、右眼用レンズの背面から測定される輝度は明状態の輝度であり、同様に、その比率を百分率で求めてクロストーク率と規定することができる。
光学素子または液晶層の位相差及び屈折率の評価は、Axomatrix社のAxoscanを用いて製造社のマニュアルに従って550nmの波長に対して測定した。
光学素子の横または縦長さの測定は、三次元測定器であるインテックアイエムエス社のPremium 600C及びIView Proプログラムを使用して測定した。また、液晶層などの厚さ測定は、薄膜表面で反射光と下部の界面で反射する光との間の干渉現象または光の位相差を用いて薄膜の特性を評価することができる装備であるspectral reflectometerを使用して測定した。
TAC基材(屈折率:1.49、厚さ:80、000nm)の一面に、光配向層形成用組成物を乾燥後の厚さが約1、000Åになるようにコーティングし、80℃のオーブンで2分間乾燥させた。光配向層形成用組成物としては、下記化学式15のシンナメート基を有するポリノルボーネン(分子量(Mw)=150、000)及びアクリル単量体の混合物を光開始剤(Igacure 907)と混合し、再びその混合物をトルエン溶媒にポリノルボーネンの固形分濃度が2wt%になるように溶解させて製造した組成物を用いた(ポリノルボーネン:アクリル単量体:光開始剤=2:1:0.25(重量比))。
製造例1の場合と同一方式で液晶層を形成するが、液晶層を形成した後に遅相軸方向と進相軸方向において屈折率との差が0.03になるように液晶混合物の造成を調節して厚さが約0.3μm、1μm及び2.5μmである液晶層をそれぞれ形成した(製造例2〜4)。さらに、製造例1と同一の液晶化合物を用いて同一方式で液晶層を製造するが、厚さが約0.3μm及び2.5μmである液晶層をそれぞれ形成した(製造例5及び6)。さらに、製造例1と同一方式で液晶層を形成するが、液晶層を形成した後に遅相軸方向と進相軸方向において屈折率との差が0.22になるように液晶混合物の造成を調節して厚さが約0.3μm、1μm及び2.5μmである液晶層をそれぞれ形成した(製造例7〜9)。前記製造例各液晶層の厚さ及び屈折率との差を下記表1に表した。
製造例1と同一方式で液晶層を形成するが、液晶組成物の配合時に多官能性重合性液晶化合物(化学式A)55重量部及び単官能性重合性液晶化合物(化学式B)45重量部を配合して製造例1と同一方式で液晶層を製造した。前記液晶層において遅相軸方向の屈折率と進相軸方向の屈折率との差は約0.125であって、液晶層の厚さは1μmであった。
それぞれ製造例2〜9で製造された液晶層を用いたことを除き、実施例1と同様に光学素子を製造した。

Claims (15)
- 液晶化合物を含み、面内の遅相軸方向の屈折率と進相軸方向の屈折率との差が0.05〜0.2であって、厚さが0.5〜2.0μmである液晶層を含むことを特徴とする光学素子。
- 前記液晶層は、下記一般式1を満足することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の光学素子:

前記一般式1において、Xは、前記液晶層の初期位相差値に対して前記液晶層を80℃で100時間の間放置した後の前記液晶層の位相差値の変化量の絶対値の百分率である。 - 前記液晶層は、単官能性重合性液晶化合物及び多官能性重合性液晶化合物を含むことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の光学素子。
- 前記液晶層は、単官能性重合性液晶化合物を、多官能性重合性液晶化合物を100重量部に対して100重量部以下で含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の光学素子。
- 前記液晶化合物は、下記化学式1で表示されることを特徴とする請求項1から4の何れか1項に記載の光学素子:
- 前記液晶化合物は、水平配向された状態で液晶層に含まれることを特徴とする請求項1から5の何れか1項に記載の光学素子。
- 前記液晶層には、互いに異なる位相遅延特性を有する第1及び第2領域が形成されることを特徴とする請求項1から6の何れか1項に記載の光学素子。
- 基材層をさらに含み、前記液晶層が前記基材層の一面に形成されることを特徴とする請求項1から7の何れか1項に記載の光学素子。
- 前記基材層と前記液晶層との間に配向層をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項8に記載の光学素子。
- 前記液晶層に付着され、偏光子を含む偏光板をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項1から9の何れか1項に記載の光学素子。
- 前記液晶層には、互いに異なる方向に形成された光軸を有する第1領域及び第2領域が形成されていて、前記第1領域の光軸と前記第2領域の光軸のなす角度を二等分する線は偏光子の光吸収軸と垂直または水平をなすことを特徴とする請求項10に記載の光学素子。
- 前記偏光板は、接着剤層または粘着剤層により液晶層に付着されることを特徴とする請求項10または11に記載の光学素子。
- 請求項1から12の何れか1項に記載の光学素子を含むことを特徴とする立体映像表示装置。
- 左眼用映像信号と右眼用映像信号を生成することができる映像表示素子をさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項13に記載の立体映像表示装置。
- 光学素子の液晶層には、互いに位相遅延特性が相違する第1及び第2領域が形成されていて、光学素子は、前記第1及び第2領域のうちのいずれか1つの領域は左眼用映像信号が透過されることができ、他の1つの領域は右眼用映像信号が透過されるように配置されることを特徴とする請求項13または14に記載の立体映像表示装置。
