また、動画再生装置は、何らかの電源で作動するため電源を切った状態では、ただ場所を占めているだけの物体と化していた。
さらに、技術的には手軽に動画を撮影できるチャンスが多いのに対して、それを人間が見るという行為になると、後者は時間に制約されるため見ことができるチャンスが圧倒的に少なくなるという原理的な不均衡があった。したがって、多くの撮影された動画データが再生の日の目を見ずに埋もれてしまっていた。
