Abstract
【解決手段】 画素電極を有する第1の基板と対向電極を有する第2の基板の間に液晶材料を挟持した液晶表示パネルを有する液晶表示装置であって、前記第2の基板は、導体膜を成膜した後、前記導体膜上に絶縁膜を成膜し、前記絶縁膜をパターニングしてなる配向制御突起と、前記配向制御突起をマスクにして前記導体膜をパターニングしてなる遮光層とを有する。

Claims (18)
- 画素電極を有する第1の基板と対向電極を有する第2の基板の間に液晶材料を挟持した液晶表示パネルを有する液晶表示装置であって、
前記第2の基板は、導体膜を成膜した後、前記導体膜上に絶縁膜を成膜し、前記絶縁膜をパターニングしてなる配向制御突起と、
前記配向制御突起をマスクにして前記導体膜をパターニングしてなる遮光層とを有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記配向制御突起および前記遮光層は、前記対向電極と前記画素電極の間に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記対向電極は、前記遮光層のパターニングよりも後に成膜された導体膜でなることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記遮光層は、基板平面上から見たときの外周が前記配向制御突起の外周よりも内側であり、かつ、前記遮光層の前記外周の側面の全面が前記配向制御突起で覆われていないことを特徴とする請求項2または請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記遮光層は、基板平面上から見たときの外周が前記配向制御突起の外周と一致するか、または外側であることを特徴とする請求項2または請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記遮光層の外周は、前記遮光層の前記外周の各点における前記配向制御突起の外周からの距離がほぼ一定であることを特徴とする請求項4または請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第2の基板は、前記対向電極と前記画素電極の間の前記液晶材料の層の厚さを2通りにする段差形成層を有し、
前記配向制御突起および前記遮光層は、前記段差形成層の端部を通り、前記液晶材料の層の厚さが異なる2つの領域に延在することを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項6のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記液晶表示パネルは、前記画素電極と前記対向電極との間の電位差が0(零)のときに、前記液晶材料中の液晶分子が、基板平面に対して垂直な方向に配向することを特徴とする請求項1乃至請求項7のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 画素電極を有する第1の基板と対向電極を有する第2の基板の間に液晶材料を挟持した液晶表示パネルを有する液晶表示装置であって、
前記第1の基板は、導体膜を成膜した後、前記導体膜上に絶縁膜を成膜し、前記絶縁膜をパターニングしてなる配向制御突起と、
前記配向制御突起をマスクにして前記導体膜をパターニングしてなる遮光層とを有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記配向制御突起および前記遮光層は、前記画素電極と前記対向電極の間に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項9に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極は、前記遮光層のパターニングよりも後に成膜された導体膜でなることを特徴とする請求項9に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記遮光層は、基板平面上から見たときの外周が前記配向制御突起の外周よりも内側であり、かつ、前記遮光層の前記外周の側面の全面が前記配向制御突起で覆われていないことを特徴とする請求項10または請求項11に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記遮光層は、基板平面上から見たときの外周が前記配向制御突起の外周と一致するか、または外側であることを特徴とする請求項10または請求項11に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記遮光層の外周は、前記遮光層の前記外周の各点における前記配向制御突起の外周からの距離がほぼ一定であることを特徴とする請求項12または請求項13に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶表示パネルは、前記画素電極と前記対向電極との間の電位差が0(零)のときに、前記液晶材料中の液晶分子が、基板平面に対して垂直な方向に配向することを特徴とする請求項9乃至請求項14のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 画素電極を有する第1の基板と対向電極を有する第2の基板の間に液晶材料を挟持した液晶表示パネルを有し、前記第1の基板は前記対向電極と前記画素電極の間の前記液晶材料の層の厚さを2通りにする段差形成層および前記段差形成層と重畳する領域に配置された反射層を有する液晶表示装置であって、
前記第1の基板は、導体膜を成膜した後、前記導体膜上に絶縁膜を成膜し、前記絶縁膜をパターニングしてなる配向制御突起と、
前記配向制御突起および前記段差形成層をマスクにして前記導体膜をパターニングしてなる反射層とを有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記配向制御突起は、前記段差形成層と重畳する領域の外側まで延在していることを特徴とする請求項16に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶表示パネルは、前記画素電極と前記対向電極との間の電位差が0(零)のときに、前記液晶材料中の液晶分子が、基板平面に対して垂直な方向に配向することを特徴とする請求項16または請求項17に記載の液晶表示装置。
