上記した特許文献1に開示されている発光ダイオードを用いたLCDバックライトは、図3に示すように、絶縁性を有するプリント基板11の上面に複数個のLED(発光ダイオード)12を所定の位置に実装する。前記LED12の側面周囲を反射枠(枠部材)13で囲み、前記LED12に対向して、前記枠部材13の上面に散乱シート(拡散板)14を配設する。前記プリント基板11の上面は、LED12の実装領域以外の部分は、一般的にレジスト15にてコーティングされている。レジスト15をコーティングするのは、プリント基板11には、部品を半田付けするための半田付けパターンと、導通用のパターンがあり、半田はパターン上に濡れ広がり、半田付けパターン以外にも半田が付いてしまうのを防止すると同時に、導通用パターンの保護を兼ねている。前記レジスト15に白色光沢印刷を施することで、光の反射面としての効果も兼ねることが良く用いられている。以上により、LCDバックライトを構成する。
