Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a pin type which uses a guide pin to connect a ferrule is large in the number of components and costs much and a non-pin type requires troublesome aftertreatment because of an overflowing adhesive. SOLUTION: It is made possible to fix a guide pin in a guide pin insertion hole of the ferrule by forming a fixation hole which is smaller than a positioning hole and has a smaller external diameter than the guide pin inside a positioning hole where the guide pin can be inserted and pressing the guide pin in the fixation hole. A through hole which has a smaller external diameter than the fixation hole is formed inside the fixation hole of the guide insertion hole. A discharge hole is formed inside the fixation hole of the guide pin insertion hole by the fixation hole.

As shown in FIG. 4 (a), the type with a pin accommodates a ferrule 20 in a generally cylindrical housing 12 so as to be movable in the axial direction thereof, and separates the ferrule 20 at the rear end side of the ferrule 20. The fixing member 13 formed on the body is arranged, and the guide pin 6 is fixed to the fixing member 13.
An elastic member (spring) 14 is arranged behind the fixing member 13. The elastic member 14 is for pressing the ferrule 20 toward the tip end side in the axial direction. In the ferrule 20 with a pin shown in FIG. 4A, the guide pin 6 inserted and fixed in one ferrule 20 is inserted into the guide pin insertion hole 15 of the other ferrule 20 as shown in FIG. 4B. , Both ferrules 20 are connected and fixed. The pinless type does not use a guide pin, but the fixing member 13 has been used in order to share the members with the pin type. However, in the case of a ferrule for field installation that uses mechanical splicing technology (a technique in which an optical fiber is placed in the V-shaped groove of the base, the base is covered with the optical fiber, and the base and the lid are clamped with a U-shaped spring) As shown in FIG. 5, MT (Mechanically Transfe
Since there is the mechanical splice portion 18 behind the rable portion 17, the fixing member cannot be used. Therefore, in this case, the guide pin 6 is inserted into the MT portion 17 and the guide pin 6 is adhesively fixed to the MT portion 17 with an adhesive. In the case of FIG. 5, the MT portion 17 and the mechanical splice portion 18 are collectively called a ferrule.

The guide pin fixing method using the fixing member 13 has a problem that the cost is high because of the large number of parts. The guide pin fixing method using the adhesive has a problem that the adhesive is squeezed out to the joint end surface 19 of the MT portion, and therefore the post-treatment of the squeezed-out adhesive is troublesome. Therefore, for the guide pin fixing method using the fixing member 13, in order to reduce the number of parts and reduce the cost, the guide pin 6 is not used without using the fixing member 13.
There is a demand for a structure that can fix the ferrule 20 to the ferrule 20.
Regarding a guide pin fixing method using an adhesive, a ferrule fixing method that does not require post-treatment of the adhesive is desired from the viewpoint of work improvement.

Guide pin length, guide pin protrusion length, positioning portion (large diameter portion of the guide hole) in the ferrule of the present invention
1, the length of the fixed portion (small diameter portion) 5 and the like can be arbitrarily selected, and those lengths in FIG. 1 can be set to the following relationships, for example. l = L + X + Y 1 However, l: guide pin length L: guide pin protrusion length X: length of positioning hole (large diameter part of guide hole) Y: length of fixing hole (small diameter part) Y 1 : press-fitting length of guide pin Y 2 : Space length Here, condition 1 for allowing the protruding portion 9 of the guide pin to be smoothly connected to the pinless ferrule and condition 2 for preventing the guide pin 6 from being bent and held by the fixed portion 5. It is desirable to do each of the following. Condition 1: X ≧ L Condition 2: Y 1 ≧ l / 5 Further, the outer diameter of the guide pin: φA The diameter of the positioning hole: φB The diameter of the fixing hole: φC, and φB is about 0.1 to 0.3% based on φA. It is preferable to form it thick and make φC thin about 0.2 to 2%. φ
If B is larger than this, the backlash is too great to function as a positioning hole. If it is smaller than this, friction with the guide pin diameter φA at the time of fitting the ferrule becomes too large, and perfect fitting cannot be achieved. Further, if φC is larger than this, the guide pin cannot be fixed, and if it is smaller than this, it becomes difficult to press-fit the guide pin or the ferrule is broken in some cases.

At the time of inserting the guide pin 6 into the ferrule body 2 at the time of assembling the connector, the guide pin 6 is inserted into the positioning hole 4 as shown in FIG.
As shown in FIG. 1D, the guide pin 6 is press-fitted into the fixing hole 5 at the tip of the joining end surface 3 and fixed when the protruding length L of the guide pin 6 becomes a predetermined length (usually about 1.5 to 3 mm).

(Third Embodiment) FIG. 3A shows a third embodiment of the ferrule for an optical connector of the present invention. Similar to the ferrule of the first embodiment, this ferrule has a guide pin insertion hole 1 having a positioning hole 4 and a fixing hole 5, and a discharge port 11 perpendicular to the axis of the fixing hole 5 at the tip of the fixing hole 5 has a ferrule main body 2 It is formed by opening on the side surface of. In FIG. 3A, the outlet 11 at the tip of the upper fixing hole 5 and the outlet 11 at the tip of the lower fixing hole 5 are formed in opposite directions to each other and are opened on both side surfaces of the ferrule body 2. . The outlet 11 is not necessarily required to be perpendicular to the axis of the fixing hole 4 as long as it is opened on the side surface of the ferrule body 2. The outlet 11 is the through hole 1 of the second embodiment.
Like 0, it is for discharging air and dust to the outside. Although the discharge port 11 in FIG. 3A has the same diameter as the fixed portion 5, the diameter may be smaller than that of the fixed portion 5 if necessary.
You can also make it thicker.

The ferrule for an optical connector according to claim 1 comprises a positioning hole having a guide pin insertion hole slightly larger than the outer diameter of the guide pin, and a fixing hole formed at the back of the positioning hole. Since the fixing hole is smaller than the positioning hole and smaller than the outer diameter of the guide pin, the guide pin can be securely fixed with the ferrule body, no fixture is required, the number of parts is reduced, and the cost is reduced. The ferrule for an optical connector according to a second aspect of the invention has the following effects because a through hole having a diameter smaller than that of the fixing hole is formed deep inside the fixing hole of the guide pin insertion hole. 1. Even if air or dust is in the guide pin insertion hole, the air or dust will be discharged to the outside through the through hole by the press-fitting of the guide pin, and air or dust will not hinder the press-fitting of the guide pin.
The guide pin is pressed in smoothly. 2. If the guide pin is inserted until it abuts the end of the fixing hole (starting end of the through hole) during press fitting of the guide pin, the guide pin is reliably positioned, and positioning is easy and reliable. 3. Even if an unexpectedly large force acts on the guide pin due to dropping or hitting it when using the connector, press-fitting is restricted in the guide pin pushing direction and not so great in the pulling out direction. There is no need to worry about the pin moving.
