Abstract
1457458 Measuring wheel speed electrically WAGNER ELECTRIC CORP 17 May 1974 [24 May 1973] 21989/74 Heading GIN [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A tachogenerator sensor 15 has a rotor 17 in the form of a ladder 57 of ferrous material fixed in a bore 47 in the side wall 39 of the hub-cap 11 of a vehicle wheel 3. The stator 19 includes an annular coil 107 sensing variations in magnetic flux density occasioned by rotor movement relative to teeth 113 of a pair of annular stator polepieces 109, 109a, the stator being secured by threaded studs 99 to an extension 37 of the wheel bearing retaining nut 7. The cap 11 encloses a chamber 13 for lubricant for the bearing 5 in which lubricant the sensor 15 operates. Magnetomotive force is provided by a plurality of permanent magnets 127 arranged between a mounting ring 73 supported on the surface 23 of the vehicle axle 1 and the coil inner surface 121 which magnets are clamped between the polepieces with their north and south poles adjacent to polepieces 109, 109a respectively.
