Abstract

A slurry of red mud (20-80g/l, or 40g/ml caustic Na2O is mixed with lime in a ratio 1 mol Na2O:2-4 mols CaO resulting in a slurry of approx. 300g/ml (4moles Na2O/Al2O3. This slurry is heated to 300 deg.C for about 20 mins., the solid product is separated and the liquid is returned to a suitable stage in the process cycle.
