Abstract
A hydrophilic, soft, gas penetrable contact lens, which has a markedly improved clinical performance with the provision of a sufficiently higher ratio of hydroxy acrylic components relative to silicon components on the surface layer of the lens, compared to those present at the core of the lens, by surface processing of the lens, as, for example, by reactions of the lens' surface with polyols and bases or acids, or by radiation treatment of the basic lens for the insertion, deposition, or coating of its hydroxyl acrylic components.
