Abstract
997,526. Aircraft undercarriages. KIRK-WING CO. April 30, 1964, No. 18080/64. Heading B7G. In an aircraft, particularly a light aircraft, having a wing root or bulkhead member 11 and an outwardly-extending spar 12 an undercarriage and its mounting comprise a leg 21 pivoted at 20 on a hinge block 18 and braced by an A-frame 50 attached to the leg by a pivot 53 and by pivots 54, 55 to bulkhead 11. The star 12 carries bearings 15, 16 for a lead screw 17 in threaded engagement with theblock 18 and driven by a motor 56. The block 18 carries rollers 23 which bear on opposite faces of the web of an I-section beam 30 attached to spar 12 whereby the block is guided for linear movement upon operation of motor 56 to retract the undercarriage from the full line position shown in Fig. 1 to the dotted line position. A hollow block 40 is attached to spar 12 and when the undercarriage is extended block 18 fits closely within block 40, thereby transferring landing loads directly to the structure and relieving screw 17 of bending loads.
