Abstract
995,084. Rotary exhausters. N. G. N. Ltd., and BRYMNER R. June 30, 1961 [July 9, 1960], No. 24027/60. Heading F1F. A two-stage vacuum pump comprises coaxial cylindrical casings 12, 15 each containing a piston 39 mounted on an eccentric 40 rotated by a common drive shaft 11 and a vane 44 sliding in a slot in the casing and hinged to the piston. The pistons of the two stages are 180 degrees out of phase, and the two vanes lie in the same plane and are inclined from the vertical. The transfer plate 18 which separates the two stages is formed with two oblique passages 52, 53 which connect the outlet side of the first stage (in the casing 12) to the inlet side of the second stage. The outlet from the second stage comprises several openings 46 arranged in the same longitudinal plane, covered by a sheet 49 of synthetic rubber formed with a split which serves as a non-return valve. The pump is immersed in an oil bath, and is lubricated by oil leaking into the second stage by way of the vane groove 43. The vane groove of the first stage is covered to prevent such leakage. A small amount of air is allowed to enter the second stage on the discharge side by passages 62. The pump may have more than two stages, adjacent stages being separated by transfer plates 18.
