Abstract

994,965. Key locks. JAMES GIBBONS Ltd. Nov. 2, 1961 [Dec. 8, 1960], No. 42291/60. Heading E2A. A key-operated lever lock has one or more levers each with two gate slots a, b alternatively to receive a bolt stump 15 and allow movement of the bolt at different lift positions respectively of the lever, and the bolt is provided with a talon projection 4 for engagement by a key bit for bolt movement and the bolt is spring loaded for a small return movement at each end of its throw to enable a key bit to engage opposite sides of the talon projection for successive opposite movements of the bolt. In the construction shown there are two levers 19, 20 each having two gate slots and a third lever 16 which has a gate 18 to receive the stump of the bolt and a notch 17 to hold the bolt withdrawn. The provision of the two gate slots in each of the levers 19 and 20 permits the use of a master key and a servant key. The keys are constructed so that they can be inserted from both sides of the lock. The bolt is loaded for the small-return movement by two springs 9, 10 the spring 9 engaging a shoulder 13 on the bolt and the spring 10 engaging a shoulder 14 the movement of each spring being limited by stops 11, 12 respectively.
