Abstract

The invention comprises the des A-estran-17-one compounds of the general formula <FORM:0983608/C2/1> in which A represents the oxygen atom = O of a keto group, B3 represents two hydrogen atoms and B1 and B2 together represent a double bond; or A represents the grouping -NRR1 (where R and R1, which may be the same or different, each represents an alkyl group having from 1-6 carbon atoms or they, together with the N-atom, constitute a substituted or unsubstituted nitrogen or nitrogen and oxygen-containing heterocyclic ring system) and together with B1 forms a double bond, and B2 and B3 also form a double bond, and processes for the preparation thereof by oxidizing (e.g. with sulpho-chromic mixture) 17b -hydroxy-des A-estr - 9 - en - 5 - one to form des - A - estr - 9 - en - 5,17 - dione and if desired reacting the latter with a secondary amine (e.g. pyrrolidine).
