989,906. Tumbler driers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Nov. 2, 1962 [Nov. 6, 1961], No. 41537/62. Heading F4G. The metallic drum 2 of a tumbler drier is so proportioned to H.F. waves generated by means 55 and projected into the drum by a probe 75 in a member 46 in the door 37 that the reflection of the waves changes in a predetermined pattern as the amount of moisture in the fabrics in the drum decreases towards substantial dryness of the fabrics, which pattern is measured by means (not shown) to terminate the drying process e.g. by initiating the operation of a timer mechanism. The probe may be mounted in the door (as above), in a stub shaft covered with dielectric material in the rear wall of the drum, in the tumbling ribs 9, or in a smooth member of dielectric material secured to the inner surface of the door. The drum is driven by roller wheels 10, 13 and is heated by air drawn over heating elements 26, through perforations 22 in the drum rear wall, across the drum, through a perforated opening 47 in the inner wall 36 of a hollow door section 44 and aligned openings 48, 49 in the door section and adjacent door frame 38 into a duct 40 having a lint trap 50, and then through a blower 51 to an outlet duet (not shown).
