Abstract

988,243. Surgical pads. SCROLL MFG. CO. Ltd. July 12, 1961 [July 13, 1960], No. 25281/61. Heading A5R. A surgical pad comprises a dumb-bell shaped blank of thermo-plastic material 1 with the enlarged ends 2, 3 superposed, so that the narrow connection 4 forms a digit loop, and heat-sealed around their bounding edges. This leaves the central parts of the end portions unsecured to each other so that they tend to separate, leaving a cavity 12, Fig. 4, which, if the upper portion 2 has an aperture 7, may be used to accommodate medicament. As shown in Fig. 4, the thermoplastic material is preferably a laminate of a cover sheet 5 and a sponge cushioning layer 6. The upper sealing die 8 is conveniently passed through the loop 4 prior to closing against the lower die 9.
