Abstract

987,594. Valves. HOOVER Ltd. May 2, 1962 [May 5, 1961], No. 16853/62. Heading F2V. [Also in Division A4] A liquid dispensing valve device comprises a rigid body 35, e.g. of plastics material, adapted for connection as by a cup-shaped part 36 to a liquid container 32, the body having a cavity 37 open to the container at one end and to the exterior of the body through a side opening 38, a flexible elastic sleeve 42 embracing the body normally to close the opening 38, this sleeve being formed, adjacent the opening 38 with a projecting lug 43 such that a longitudinal force exerted on it will draw the sleeve away from the opening 38 and allow liquid to escape. A thick side wall 45 of the sleeve opposite the lug 43 is located in an anchorage in the body. To ensure the gravity flow of liquid, air is allowed to enter through an opening 46 which communicates with the container through a check valve 41. The device is applied to a carpet shampooing applicance (see Division A4), in which an outlet pipe 49 from the closed end of the sleeve feeds brushes of the appliance, the device being operated by a pull cord 52. The sleeve may additionally be biased to closed position by a spring attached at a point where it opposes the pull cord.
