Abstract
972,808. Making dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Nov. 11, 1962 [Nov. 24, 1961], No. 43065/62. Headings B3A and B3V. [Also in Division H2] The squirrel cage rotor core 15 of a dynamoelectric machine is fixed to shaft 18 by applying to the shaft a layer of unhardened adhesive thermosetting resin 20a, heating the rotor core so that the bore expands and can be positioned correctly against thrust member 21 in the supporting jig 46. The heat of the rotor core is sufficient to initially soften the resin and then harden it so that as the box contracts an interference fit occurs between the hardened resin and the rotor core and the latter is secured to the shaft. By using a thixotropic epoxy resin an adequate thickness is maintained to retain the core and the small amount of leakage is used to secure thrust member 21. The thrust member at the opposite end of the core is secured by placing a bead of resin around the shaft and inverting the assembly in the jig to position the parts correctly. The rotor core laminations are secured together at their periphery by the die-cast rotor winding 64 and adjacent to the bore by the adhesive resin which is effectively squeezed between the laminations.
