Abstract
971,019. Waveguide resonance isolators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 3, 1962 [Aug. 8, 1961, No. 29964/62. Heading H1W. A resonance isolator comprises a strip 12 of ferrite arranged symmetrically about the centre line of a broad side of a rectangular waveguide 11, the strip being of such a width that it extends into the fields of magnets 14. The fields are adjusted to the value necessary to produce gyromagnetic resonance and are concentrated on the edges of the ferrite strip by polepieces in the form of inserts 15. The central part of the strip is only weakly magnetized and behaves as a non-ferromagnetic dielectric material, the effect being comparable to that obtained in known isolators using strips of low-loss, non-magnetic ceramic material arranged alongside strips of ferrite. A second strip of ferrite may be arranged on the remaining broad wall. The magnetic circuit is completed by members 16, 17.
