970,104. Diffraction apparatus. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Nov. 28, 1962 [Nov. 28, 1961], No. 44965/62. Heading H5R. A solid specimen holder for X-ray diffraction chambers comprises a hollow body 1 open at one end and closed at the other by a base 21 in a plane tangential to the focusing circle upon which are the focus of the source, the specimen and the point at which the diffracted radiation converge, the base being equipped with a window 3 made of a material transparent to X- rays, a cover 8 fixed in gas and radiation impervious fashion to the open end of the body, and a device 12, 13 for clamping the specimen in contact with the internal face of the base equipped with the window. Apertures 5 may be provided in the sides of the body 1, and sealed with pellets 6 of fritted glass. A spring 12 holds the specimen 20 firmly against the window 3, the other end of the spring being held by a plate 8 which seals the open end of the body 1, the plate 8 being held in position by means of bayonet pins 9.
