Hides are successively delivered on to a support K in a suitable position for stapling by the action of a set of conveyer belts 32 and a reversible set of conveyer belts 53. The gap P between the two sets of belts is bridged by interdigitating members 35. When the hide reaches a feeler 81, a timing device is set which causes the belts 53 to reverse, after a predetermined interval. The feeler 81 also causes the members 35 to be retracted. The hide is thus caused to be draped over the support K as shown occurring at U. Height adjustment is provided by a telescopic mounting 45 operated by a motor 90. A further guide 85 is provided.
