Abstract

962,535. Coiling and feeding sliver. TOYODA AUTOMATIC LOOM WORKS Ltd. May 1,1963, No. 17115/63. Heading D1F. In the operation of apparatus for severing sliver S supplied by a coiler as a filled can C is replaced by an empty can C<SP>1</SP>,a lever 8 swings upwardly from the position shown in Fig. 1 so that a sliding roller 15 lifts a presser lever 4 into a position in which it nips sliver against the coiler plate 3 and is there held by a spring 7 catching a hook 6. The lever 8 disengages lever 4 and, as its upward swing continues, one end of a pivoted arm 11 is engaged by a projection 16 to close a spring-loaded nipper 10 on to the sliver, Fig. 3. Further swing of lever 8, Fig. 4 (not shown) severs the sliver between the live nip points and then causes an arm 17 to co-operate with an extension 4<SP>1</SP> to swing lever 4 to its initial position, the end depending from the coiler falling into can C<SP>1</SP>. The return swing of lever 8, which is oscillated about a remote axis by a limit-switch controlled, reversible motor, Fig. 8 (not shown) causes nipper 10 to open and release the other sliver end: alternatively, lever 8 may swing this end over a conveyer or feed cable e.g. of a drawing frame, before releasing it so that sliver may be fed directly from can C, Fig. 9 (not shown).
