Abstract

962,168. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. April 18, 1961 [May 28, 1960], No. 18965/60. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre having a tread formed from rubber composition having in its vulcanized form a hysteresis loss greater than 0.04 joules per c.c. at a temperature of 25 ‹ C. and preferably less than 0.03 joules per c.c. at 70‹ C., is provided with a carcase reinforcement consisting solely of rubberized parallel steel cords and a pair of bead wires, the cards each extending from at least one bead wire to provide two layers of crossed cords in each sidewall. The reinforcement may comprise either two plies of cords wrapped at each edge around the adjacent bead wire, or a single ply of cords having its edges doubled around the bead wires and back along the sidewalls to overlap in the tread region of the tyre. In each case the cord angle may be 60 degrees to the circumferential direction. The tread rubber may be a butyl or GR-S composition and the sidewall may be of the same composition or a different composition such as natural rubber.
