960,405. Gas-blast switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 1, 1960 [June 2, 1959], No. 48990/63. Divided out of 960,402. Heading H2B. The circuit-breaker of Specifications 960,402, 960,403, 960,404 and 960,406 is provided with control linkage extending from the exhaust valve and contact operating mechanism (not shown) to a remote primary actuating mechanism 19, the linkage being biased to its " trip " position by a spring 107 disposed adjacent the operating mechanism so as to place the linkage under tension. The linkage may be held in the " close " position by a releasable latch in the mechanism 19 and may be brought into the " close " position against the bias of the spring by a motor, pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically operated. In the multibreak arrangement shown, the control rods 106 of the two interrupter pairs 14 mounted on each insulator 11 are biased by springs 107, extend down support arms 13 and are connected through a bell crank lever 150 with a single control rod 151 passing down the insulator 11, the rod 151 being maintained in tension by a spring 152. The rods 151 are connected by further rods 153 to a common operating rod 154 extending to the mechanism 19. The common rod 154 may also be tensioned by a loading spring and pass to other phases in a three-phase circuit-breaker assembly. Specification 919,843 also is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 919,843.
