Abstract

968,518. Measuring fluid flow electrically. SATCHWELL CONTROLS Ltd. Dec. 14, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1961], No. 45917/61. Heading G1N. The mass flow of fluid through a by-pass conduit 2 which is proportional to the flow in a main conduit 1, is measured by determining the energy fed to a heating element 12 located betwe n two temperature-sensitive resistors 6, 7 to maintain the temperature difference at a predetermined value. The resistors 6, 7 are connected into a bridge circuit whose output is fed via amplifier 11 to a relay controlling the heat supplied to heater 12 through contacts 15, simultaneously closing the circuits at 15a to a synchronous motor and revolution counter 16. The supply voltage 14 is stabilized by a rectifier and Zener diode in known manner. An auxiliary heater 12a is continuously energized to compensate for the heat lost through the walls of the by-pass conduit 2, which may alternatively be inside the mains conduit 1. Means 5, 19 are provided for controlling the flow ratio between the two conduits. Specification 871,562 is referred to.
