Abstract

968,241. Tool-holders. EDGAR ALLEN & CO. Ltd. Feb. 6, 1963 [May 16, 1962], No. 18779/62. Heading B3B. A tool-holder 1 comprises a recess 7 in which a " throwaway " bit 18 is clamped by a plate 21, a recess 29 in the plate 21 for a "throwaway" chip breaker 30, and a rib 22 for guiding the plate towards the bit. One or more pegs or screws 34 engage locating holes 32 in the chip breaker with either of its breaking edges in the operative position. The plate is clamped by a screw 24 after lateral adjustment by a screw 37 engaging a blind hole 35 formed partly in the holder-body 1 and partly in the plate 21, the part in the plate being unthreaded. A seating 9 for the bit has a key 14 co-operating with a keyway 11 in the body 1 and is secured by a screw, Fig. 2 (not shown). In a modification using a square bit, Fig. 4 (not shown), a key 14 is provided on two adjacent sides of the seating 9. Alternatively, the seating may be integral with the body 1. The cutting edge has negative rake. Specification 968,242 is referred to.
