966,494. Rolling. UNITED ENGINEERING & FOUNDRY CO. Sept. 6, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1961], No. 45797/61. Heading B3M. A rolling mill which includes housings 12 and 13 can receive two rolls 26 and 27 for slab rolling, the roll chocks being mounted on filled beams 32 and 33 and being offset towards the centre of the mill, or can receive four rolls of greater working length for sheet rolling, the housings being provided in the region of the pass with recesses 41 to allow sheets of greater width than the spacing between the housings to be accommodated. The upper backing-roll chock in the four high arrangement is supported by hangers 19 of a cylinder 19a, hydraulic jacks 25 urging the work roll chocks apart. For twohigh rolling, beams 32 and 33 provide bearing surfaces for the chocks of the relatively shorter rolls 26 and 27. The chocks are also laterally supported by projections 40, and one chock 31, Fig. 5, has projections 42 which are clamped to the housing 12. Rotatable keys 45 give further lateral support for the chocks 31 when rotated into the recesses 41 during two high rolling.
