Abstract
A normally solid homopolymer of ethylene is prepared by the polymerization of ethylene in an inert hydrocarbon solvent using a titanium trichloride-diethylaluminium chloride catalyst in the presence of hydrogen, the melt index of the polymer being increased by including propylene in the polymerization mixture. The amounts of propylene and hydrogen added are preferably 10 to 200% and 10 to 500% respectively by volume of the ethylene. Of the solvents listed, n-hexene is exemplified.
