Abstract

[Also in Division F1] In a machine tool, an hydraulic linear or rotary motor AP performs intermittent back- and-forth movements with reversal at a constant point at least in one direction of movement. As illustrated in Fig. 3, the point at which the motor starts to decelerate always lies on the sloping line, there being a time delay mechanism which, when a signal to reverse is given at point S1, prevents deceleration until the point Via is reached when the speed is V2, but is inoperative when the speed is V1. In the embodiment of Fig. 4, a reversible variable-output pump has its output in each direction adjusted by stops A1, A2 which limit the movements of an operating piston K3. The output of the pump is supplied to a piston K1 moving a table T carrying reversing stops T1, T2. The stops may act mechanically (as shown), or electrically or hydraulically to reverse a valve K2 supplied with pressure by a pump ZP and driving to operate the piston K3 through timing valves Z1, Z2. The timing valves are constituted by pistons moved against springs Fd1, Fd2 by fluid supplied by a variable delivery-pump SP controlled simultaneously with the pump AP. The length of the time delay is set by stops Sp1, Sp2 adjusted simultaneously with the stops A1, A2. A piston valve S causes the supply from the pump SP to be delivered always to a line 3. When the pump AP is delivering at maximum output the time delay is zero. In a modification, a vertically reciprocating working piston has an exact reversal point in the feed direction only. The acceleration of the return stroke is controlled by a throttle valve in the exhaust line from the reversing valve and the pump SP is omitted. In a further modification, the working piston K10, Fig. 6, contains a relief valve RV1. Fluid enters at a port 1 for the working stroke. On the return stroke, fluid cannot escape from the port 1 due to a non-return valve in the circuit. The fluid in the space F1 therefore passes to the space F2 through the valve RV1.
