Abstract

952,827. Cutting straw &c. A. B. GRONBERG. Aug. 24, 1962 [Aug. 29, 1961], No. 32660/62. Heading A4C. [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for disintegrating straw, hay &c. includes a rotor 2 with a plurality of radial knives 12, the rotor 2 being journalled in a housing 5 having a downwardly open inlet 6 and an upwardly open outlet 9, means e.g. a fan 7 or a flail cutter (Fig. 3 not shown) for feeding material to the inlet 6 and a sieve 20 serving as a grate located between the rotor 2 and the outlet 9. Three rows of radial knives 12 co-operate with a row of stationary, adjustable knives 13 and with a part cylindrical sieve 20 provided with apertures 21 and ribs 22, the sieve 20 having a radius of curvature only slightly in excess of the radius of swing of the knives 12. Slots 24 at the side of the sieve 20 engage studs 23 on the housing 5 thereby to permit the sieve 20 to be moved against springs (not shown) engaging bolts 25. A further fan may be located in the conduit 10 extending from the outlet 9.
