Abstract
A constructional building material, for concrete surfaces, steps, wall plastering, roofing or pavings, includes a hardenable or hardened concrete mix containing (a) 70-98% by weight of an inorganic aggregate, such as sand of grain size 0.1-0.5 mm., gravel or clinker, (b) a fibrous, filamentary or fabric material, e.g. 0.1-10% by weight of synthetic resin fibre, textile base or metal filament materials, but preferably 0.5-2% by weight of glass fibre, and (c) a hardenable or hardened ethoxylin resin binder, being a combination of an epoxy resin and an amine-amide prepared from a monomeric, polymeric or epoxidised unsaturated fatty acid by reaction with a polyamine, e.g. 5-13% by weight. The concrete mix may also contain one or more tertiary Mannich bases containing the grouping: <FORM:0952186/C3/1> where X = 1-4, R1 is a mono- or poly-nuclear mono- or poly-hydric phenol radical, R2 and R12 are each an alkyl, aryl or hydroxy-alkyl/aryl radical or together members of a heterocyclic ring, e.g. 2-6% by weight of tri-(dimethylamino-methyl)-phenol. An accelerator and/or a viscosity reducing agent may be added for hardening. For marbling, colouring materials may be added, e.g. carbon black, red iron oxide and/or a metal powder such as aluminium. The mix may be hardened into building elements in a mould treated with silicone or paraffin wax, polyvinyl alcohol and/or polyethylene, or faced on to an insulating backing, e.g. on brickwork, such as made of foamed polystyrene or polyvinyl chloride, by applying with pressure or spraying the resin binder made up to a dispersion, emulsion or solution or used as a melt.
